Chapter 1

A lifetime ago, I was a seafaring lad, living in Hamsah with a wife and two kids.
An honest living with a life of hard work and a good family to return too.
I was the one who made sure our ship was tip top shape, whether forging nails,
or braces, working metal for the ship, or even a carpenter, fixing the rot wood
amongst many other task. I did my fair share of deckhand task too, and sailed the
mighty open seas. From the Docks of Hamsah, to Seantryn and Arkham alike. Many
a storms, and sunshine filled me days enjoying the salty air and breeze. Though
the best part of my voyages was returning home, to me two wee children and me wife
waiting on the docks for me when I returned home. We'd unload and disembark and
always, my fondest memories, were them running to me and jumping into me arms
like little rabid animals of love and affection. Then I greet my ever so patient
wife, just to give her a big ole kiss and embrace. It wasn't a rich life, it wasn't.
extravagant, but it was perfect.

I remember it like it was yesterday. A summer day, yet the chill in the air was
bone shattering. We were soon to dock the ship, glancing over the horizon,
I saw smoke, and flames ravaging the great Hamsah Mu'Tazz. My heart sank to hell,
and my soul felt as if it ripped from me chest. We docked and before I could even
think, I leaped off ship onto the dock, with never a care and ran straight for
my family, though they weren't at the docks.

The flames grew and grew, the bells were tolling and screaming and shouting of
terror, raging through the city. In the shadows of the flames, darklings lurked.
Chaos spread like the fires set by the savages. Tribunals held up in their barracks
terrified of the onslaught that was occurring. Fighting through all this, witnessing
what I had, It was an all out war of the cabals of Thera. Scions, outlanders,
imperials, tribunals, mostly cowering away, and the Fortress alike. Magic was slung
about haphazardly, corpses all about. Mages of all sort, fighting for whatever their
cause was, with reckless abandon.

I fought me way through the madness, only to find it all gone. Everything that I
ever cherished and loved. My wife, My children, bloody, burnt, corpses, caught
in the middle of this tragedy known as my life at this moment. I gathered them
together, and held them as tight as I could, tears falling down my face like the
rain from a storm, out at sea. I had lost it all, it was gone forever.
