Role

Chapter 1

Elandarn grew up in the Western swamps of Thera. His tribe was small with
only a dozen families and less than a hundred people in total. They had
primitive huts set up on a island deep in the swamp which they had lived for
eons. They were content to hunt and gather what little they needed to eat and
make clothing and tools. They lived a peaceful life and did not venture far
from their village rarely traveling many days from their village as they were
able to find game and hunt in the many waterways that surrounded their
village. They spoke a primitive dialect of elvish. They rarely saw visitors
from the outside world but sometimes explorers would wander into their
village from far away places, but these visits were so rare that decades
would pass before they saw another.


One day Elandarn was returning from a hunting trip which had taken him to the
furthest reaches of their land and he had been away for almost a week. He
started to notice worrying signs from nearby fauna and as he paddled closer
to the village he spotted bodies floating in the water.Dread filled his
heart as he wandered into the village in a daze. Bodies were strewn all
over, men women and children, all dead.Some of the huts were smoldering,
fires almost dyeing down. As he walked around trying to find any survivors
he noticed some dead bodies of fourenors, proving his kindred had sold
their lives dearly. Pulled up to a bank of the river on the outskirts of
the village was a half submerged barge, markings on the bow proclaimed
"Galadonian Lumber and Fur Co".

Elandarn gathered all the bodies into a pile and burned them in a massive
funeral pire, tears streaming down his cheeks. He gathered what supplies he
could find and left the village for ever, leaving his family, his home, his
life, everything he had ever known.
