Chapter 1

Growing up in the mountains is never easy, but for a frost giant is
particularly trying if there isn't enough meat to eat. Riigda's parents
tried their best to provide, but one day were just lost in the snowstorm
while out hunting. She was small, but she can kill small animals already
and somehow survived on her own. Perhaps it was discovery of the valleys and
the foothills below the mountains, where the hunt eventually took her.
Learning quite well to hunt and feed herself, she decided to learn more of
the lush forests and in her hunt, discovered that the deer she was after
was also hunted by a wolf. Uneasy at first, they shared the meat and somewhat
of an alliance was formed, with the wolf running faster, but Riigda hitting prey harder.
The wolf, whom she called Raagda, as it sounded alike but different, made hunting
much easier. It would scare the prey, which would run in the opposite direction,
right into the axe of Riigda. The shared meat was not the only experience, however.
Sometimes Riigda can almost sense the spirit of the wolf and what it is feeling.
And they could communicate sometimes. Not talk, but share in the thought or action.
It came to the end suddenly, when in their usual hunt, Raagda fell prey herself,
on the tip of a spear of giant knight in armor, riding a huge horse.
Riigda smashed, of course, but couldn't penetrate the armor and had to fall back.
Now she desires to learn to smash better and to learn more of the animals.
And to cut off the heads of all the knights in shining armor, of course.
