Chapter 9

Srithra was considered the runt of his litter. Born skinny and weak looking,
his sow shunned him in favor of the his fatter, larger brothers and sisters.
He was cunning though, even at the age when most orclings are nothing more
than machines turning food into exrement. Despite appearances, and perhaps
due to demon blood flowing strongly through his veins, his skinniness did not
denote a weakness. He was alert, and alive with maliciousness while his
brothers and sisters slept after long feedings.

He knew the dangers of being the runt, the slow starvation that was already
starting to take hold. He knew what to do. And so he approached the
fattest, dumbest, and perhaps best loved orcling in the litter while he
slept. His fingers were long and skinny, like the rest of him, a godsend
perhaps, for without they would have never fit around his brother's fat neck.


By the time the rest of the litter awoke, all that was left was a head, with
Srithra slowly gnawing on the femur bone of one of his own siblings. Truly
full for the first time, Srithra couldn't help but grin, showing the rows and
rows of sharp pointing teeth already starting to grow in. The others saw,
and whether they understood or not, room was always available for Srithra at
the sow's teet from then on, and he made a point to occupy it, even if he did
prefer raw flesh.

Srithra is a true orc. Cowardly when it serves him, but always plotting his
revenge.
