Chapter 3

A dirty journal is sitting here, its nearly
destroyed cover reads in a flowing script
Laviter, there does appear to have been more
but its since been burned, water soaked,
acid etched and even looks as though someone
took a sword to it all things considered its
in suprisingly good condition.

Most of the early chapters consist of
magical notes and various other half hatched
schemes and ideas. Leafing through you come
across a rather flashy title page inscribed.
"The collections of the Scholar, Laviter
Asarti"
You skip over the index which is long and
filled with a number of presumptious titles,
finding yourself on the first chapter.
It is written in a flowing and elegant
script. Subtle signs in the handwriting tell
you much as you scan over its contents, the
writer is very certain of himself,
egotistical and quite arrogant. Clearly he
put himself into this work, obviously a
testiment something to withstand time.
The first chapter mostly rambles about his
childhood, largely you find it
inconsequential but certain things catch
your eyes.
"... I found myself enamored with the
libraries of Hamsah Mu'taaz...a librarian
not a glamorous job, but closer to the thing
I love, the knowledge so much, some of it
lost, other pieces discarded...by fluke I
discovered the hidden libraries where only
mages may enter...heaven perhaps to me, a
room filled with dusty mouldy old books to
most others...the first spell I successfully
cast was frostfingers...something about the
chill the cold single mindedness of magic
stirred a hunger in me...a thing to fill the
empty place in my soul that knowledge cannot
fill, Power and I had to have more..."

Mostly he rambles about unimportant details
but it turns out that the simple cantrip
frostfingers was the first in a long
succession of breakthroughs into the
elemental planes.
