You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

Some of the special-purpose forums are listed below along with their replacements (as of writing):

I dont know if this is a good idea. But i was thinking.
What if there was a bravery stat? Say. Your hit roll could be determined by this the braver you are the more likely you are to attack, right? I dont know if this is a good place for this topic and i appologize if it isnt but i wanted to recommend this to an immortal and for some reason i thought Pico might like to hear it. But this is just a suggestion. Could you tell me what you think?

If you want to recommend things to Immortals, the "Ask an Immortal" forum is designed for this. Email to "imms@carrionfields.com" also works.

My comments on this is that Cador and some others tossed around the idea of a "bad-ass" stat many years ago. The idea was that in medievil times (or the Wild West, and even today) people get notoriety for their exploits, good and bad. If you had a great PK ratio or killed the lich player (I think this idea was before both of these, but you get the idea) or routinely killed big name mobs like the grolm, Imbessar, the HIgh Lord, Pwent, etc. you'd be known for being a "bad-ass". Not every Hero is the same and, as such, you'd get treated differently by mobs. (Presumbably player characters already treated you differently.)

The idea never really went anywhere because PKs are their own reward and there's no need to encourage them more. The other parts of it would be a lot of work to keep track of for benefits we weren't really sure of.

As part of better mob AI this might be a component, but I don't see it as its own project.

"Bravery" might be easier to keep track of than bad-assness, but you/we'd have to think of ways to generate "bravery points" that weren't exploitable.

I was thinking you could roll the stat.
I can not think of any other way you could do it.
Perhaps award them simialar to how you award movement points when they travel.
The problem with rolling them is that it almost seems to easy to get them when you do it.
However I think rolling them would be the best way.
And race could have much to do with it like orcs being cowardly would not have much bravery. Yet a giant, dwarf or minotaur would.
