#126, "A couple of "Heads Ups""
|
I want to thank the playerbase for their patience. Many of you are pretty understanding about immortal playing times. Others of you (as I have recently read) feel slighted when we manage to disappear for periods at a time. I just want to give a status update on what's going on with me so people take this into consideration. For those that have deleted, con-died or just have a sour taste in their mouths, I do apologize. That is never, ever the intent of any immortal of this staff.
Three things to note:
1: I just changed jobs, leading me into a promotion at another organization. This is a great thing for my family and I but it will require a different perspective and commitment.
2: My biological father just recently passed away. I had been in Arizona for over a week in the middle of March. Anyone that knows me via facebook can probably acknowledge that I have been practically MIA for much of March due to these two things. Neither of which was fully expected.
3: I am spending the last part of March and begining of April on my 10 year anniversary with my wife. While I love you players, I won't forfeit this milestone to be online - thus the computer has been off. I'm soaking in Jamaica 'mon.'
I have taken a moment to purchase some expensive wireless and read some recent threads. Please be understanding of my circumstances. With regards to the Quest (Thanks for filling in for me Twist) - no, it isn't completed. No, there aren't any huge changes going on to the world of Battle. These things have to be approved on by the entire immortal staff. However, there are some cosmetic changes requested (and roleplayed) by several deceased characters which you should see at the end of this quest.
This quest was a means to stir up interaction and I feel that it has been absolutely successful. For those players who feel somewhat jaded by it, please note that many dynamics have affected it, with key antagonists and protagonists disappearing. I hope this explanation helps.
PS - Doban - much of this was for you. You were a great character and I appreciate your involvement in the quest. Timing has been a bitch lately. Thanks for all you did to move it along.
I'll be back hacking and slashing with you all soon. Peace 'mon!'

I'm very sorry if it read that way. I didn't want it to sound that way so I opened it by thanking you. It was never intended to be a bitch.
I don't feel slighted or that I deserved anything. I did however have questions as to what happened because for the first month of Doban's life there was all kinds of quest stuff going on. And I mean more than what you had given me. The stuff you had done with other players had led to some fun RP and interactions just among the playerbase.
I was using my goodbye thread to explain my point of view on the quest because after that first month things seemed to slow down. To the point where I considered posting on your forum here to ask if it was still happening. In my mind I had thought maybe I wasn't holding my weight or had screwed up and was no longer necessary for the quest. Other than the RP side I was having a less than successful run with Doban. But, as I explained on the goodbye thread I saw how you lost alot of your "key" players in the quest early on. I couldn't help but wonder if you were thinking "Why'd I bother?" because of it and I didn't want to add to that, so I stuck it out.
It's a great thing to do something like this for the playerbase. I don't want you to think I was looking a gift horse in the mouth. I only wanted to throw out my motivations etc as time went on and ask what happened - maybe I had done something to make myself unnecessary for the quest - I didn't know so I had to ask. I totally understand RL issues and am certainly not sour in the way things ended at all.
So, thanks again. I hope you keep doing things like this. It really adds to the game. Congratz on the big 10 year and new job and enjoy Jamaica!

Thanks alot. I just wanted to make sure. I didn't think our times meshed well as I think you are around alot more in the late evenings while my times recently have been more early mornings and late afternoon/early evenings. Just know, I agree with Ghrim that you are the "####ing man" and would never dream of getting in a pissing contest with you - especially when you tried to do something cool for my character.
On a side note. Something I just remembered about creating Doban's role that I think you'll appreciate. From what I know of you, you are a huge Wheel of Time series fan since you wrote the Whitecloaks area (which I wish was still around) and played Glanduin (an Aiel takeoff). I was reading the last book that came out and there is a part in there that talked about how one of the Asha'man had accepted the fact that he would die to Saidin prior to it getting cleansed and how accepting death made them dangerous because they now had nothing to lose. I thought that would be a idea to base a rager on and so Doban was started.
Good luck completing the quest. I'm sure it will be compelling and fun to watch happen.
