You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

I was wondering if you, Zulg, the guy, have ever thought about
allowing the material(s) of hand-wear play a role in the type of
damage dealt?

For instance, if you have iron gauntlets on, and punch an elf, does
it hurt more? Technically a broad, gauntletd fist would be in contact
with the skin a lot longer (by comparison) during a punch than a
sword would be during a slashing or thrusting stroke.

So is there any chance for this, or should I go back to my hovvel?

Bizarro I'm helping!

Thought about it...never got much past that. Never really took the time to dig into the code for that either, though I'm guessing it's a fairly large change to how damage works and a fairly large coding task if we ever decided to do it. That doesn't mean it'll never happen, but it's not high on the list at the moment.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

You couldn't just do the following:
at the point where weapon material is checked for elf/drow vuln
if the attacker is unarmed check if they are wearing mithril or iron hand wear?

Or were you thinking of adding in flaming gauntlets and other such craziness? That would get messy I guess.

Good job on the recent "lovin'" by the way. Strong work.
