You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

#7982, "Question on defensive skill levels"

Now, this might just be fallout from a more D&D perspective, but why is it that priests seem to gain defensive skills last? Shamans gain both theirs first among priests, gaining shield block at 15, parry at 16, and the other two priests are significantly later, the only classes gaining parry after level 20, and shield block in the late teens each. Compared to most mages getting parry ~15, with transmuters and shifters being the only ones even near the priestly classes (and by that time, I don't really see shifters too heavily relying on it).

Well...that got longwinded quickly. Main point - always figured fighting skills generally to go to fighting classes earliest, then priests, then mages. Bad assumption?
