So are squires back to waiting 30+ hrs for an imm to take pity on them and promote? Can the Marshal or Captain promote? or is it an IMM only thing..

I don't know. We'll have a Fort guy very soon though, I think.
Until then, knowing that you have invested 8 whole hours on your Squire (one of your five active characters) since being inducted a month ago makes me suspect that pity Maran might not be right around the corner.
