You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. #6753, "Thief skill observations and feature request"

I've been looking over the thieves skill lists on the premium battlefield and am a bit confused by something.

From looking at Tonri and Carrick's skill list, they some how went straight to gag without learning nimble fingers or bind legs first. Is this possible, or did the premium battlefield omit these by mistake?

Secondly, after playing two different thieves (one thug, one city ties) it is difficult to truly plan how my career will go. With thief points seeming to stop at 40th, there's still a lot of guesswork involved about what abilities I may learn. While a certain amount of randomness is nice for shapeshifters, for a thief you would think their guildmasters would know what the thief would be capable of learning. The way thieves seem designed now, it seems that splitting your skills between guilds is discouraged. Unless I go scouring the premium battlefield for previous skill lists, I am not going to really know how far I can go if I mix guilds.

Perhaps instead of the guildmaster telling you that you can only learn Plant when you wander into a guild, perhaps he could list all of the abilities that you may have thief skills enough to learn. IE, the guildmaster tells you to come back later if you want to learn push, knife, and cheap shot. This way a thief would have a better idea on whether or not they are wasting their thief points at 40th level or if they will be able to learn skills that lead to something useful.

Finally, is there any way of knowing whether or not skills like precision strike and blackjack cost you double on thief skill points if you learn in guilds that both teach this skill? I suspect they don't, but it is hard to know for certain.
