I haven't played in a long time so please forgive me if I misunderstand.

Since edges have been mostly removed are there any "auto-edges" granted now when joining a cabal? For example if a bard joins Tribunal do they get Troubadour?

I think I remember a talk on newbie with Immortal saying it's not an issue anymore. Flaws don't give you EP.

Its still true. Some flaws don't give you EP but most still do.

Flaws are said to be designed in a way that taking them is never a good idea mechanically.

Some people like them, others don't. Thats not relevant to whether or not you gain EP for taking them.

Or I guess you can ask the imms for one, but you wouldn't get the EP.
All too often I find I'm missing just a little for a key edge

No free edges. But on the plus side you won't have to bother obtaining obs/exploration XP as a means to get edges. People apparently hated that.
