The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. #6043, "Full looting/goods and neutrals"

Was reading a few month old discussion on goods killing neutrals. I posted earlier an attempt to have full looting changed some because it makes things less fun. The overall decision was, to be a good player you should pk no matter what you're wearing, and expect to be looted. Well, since we are supposed to be brave, and not hoard gear, we're suppose to fight those hard risky battles, even when our set is nice. This can add up to a lot of fighting, and even a lot of dying, especially for caballed characters. On the old post the main argument against goods killing neutrals was there are alternatives, and its just lazy for a goodie to do so. A lot of these alternatives are way out of the way for most goodies. Armors from Udgaard are one example, even with enough moves to get there, it is a long walk. Heh, dying and being full looted sucks, and having played a lot of goodies I know, that requesting to regear takes FOREVER. Between walking, checking to see if the dude has what you need, the meditation lag, and then walking for something else, is insane. I tried my best to avoid killing neutrals as Altronas, but he died so much, and was looted so much that equipping just took too long. At best, I could have 6 requested items before unghosting. At least I think that was the best, it was probably less. Overall, the suckiness of being killed and full looted to boot is bad, and I guess everyone just gets used to that, but then having to take 30 minutes to fully clothe yourself(in basic basic, almost as good as the basic gear evils use) is just tedious and not fun. And some people might say, Equipment doesn't matter or equipment isn't everything. But whether or not you choose to believe it, equipment plays a HUGE part in Carrionfields. I wonder sometimes just what CF would be like without a single piece of eq. Boring.

There should be an extra command to go with "outfit", that saves your current set of armor to your pfile. Now, when you die, the outfit command brings back that set of armor, BUT only the *non-limited* pieces of gear that are equal or less of your level get saved. This saves people from getting killed with nothing but some charred bracers and a spiked hand axe from getting full looted and having to do it all over again. It's stupid to have to run and get the same old non-limited armor each time you die. The exception would be that should you use this command, you can't kill anything until you unghost. This would keep people from abusing the command to get a decent set of gear, and then using the set to go and get the good limited armor, with no time/risk involved. I think that the idea would be good for everyone, from new to old players, and silence the complaints of full looting, as well as ease the pain. It can even be seen good from an RP standpoint. In this way, people can have a decent set of gear to survive, and not have to waste time going through the motions when they could be getting into other interactions. Also, I don't think it would be overpowered, since you would have had to have the set of gear in the first place, and the equal or lower level clause keeps lowbies from looting someone and then being set for life.

From Galadon north gate, it is 77 moves (give or take one or two), all on roads. No real lag moving on roads. Takes less than a minute, and doesn't require resting.

General rp would forbade me from shopping in udgaard (though i done it recently as a goodie, on behalf of someone else). As an Paladin it even becomes all but impossible.

This is the price you pay for being able to rank without wandering if your groupmates are going to wack you when your at 20% health for your shiny set. At least thats how I see the goodie/evil balance thing working out...think about it, you get ranks 1-->51 with a lot less hassle.

Yeah but hopefully, you spend most of your life at hero. And the evils I have played, but never heroed made it to mid 30s without having groupmates turn on them. If you're smart you won't have this problem.

And Udgaard is a long walk especially just to get bracers, that normally would be in Galadon. 77 there 77 back. Tarus is right in Galadon. The time really adds up. Plus, goods are way more likely to be full looted by evils, then evils by goods. Not saying that goods do not full loot, but Imperials especially have an rp reason to loot their enemies, because they need them for donations or whatever.
