You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

#50768, "Here is what I think would be a 'neat' edge/flaw:"

Cost like a minor edge but has a built in flaw. Will likely in the
end be more of a flaw than anything else, but since there is an upside
you gotta buy it like an edge. Likely best if it is reallly cheap.

Lucky item.
You have X levels to choose it. Like pro baseball players with
the wierd rituals or never washing the socks or something but
an item. So long as you carry it you get some minor bonus to
'something' Who really cares what the bonus is.
Maybe category based. a weapon does one thing, armor does another,
food, containers, held items, etc.. but you don't have to wield
it. just have it. Maybe just a minor morale boost no matter what
the item is?

The down side... Woe is he who loses this. Maybe not only losing the
morale bonus, but now having a minor penalty for the rest of the
characters life. Same for categories, if your lucky dagger gave you
a +1 to hit just for having it in your inventory, now you have a -1
to hit.

The idea is mostly to give some color to RP. Like many of my
characters in the past have had this one thing they prized that
had no value to anyone else. Many times it would be something
diety given. Like Baer gave a pally of mine a waterskin or something
once and he did everything he could to keep that thing or get it back.
Or that helmet just saved me (I.e. Bob's cranial fails repeatedly)
from mace-guys cranial several times running.. poof. I declare it my
lucky helmet.

If need be just make it a flaw, but then when do you set the item?
They are better as rp-event based. Have the item- normal / lose it
-2 morale.

So what do ya think?
Like it/don't see the point/or hate it?
