#46852, "Lowbie mages and parry"
Edited on Fri 17-Aug-12 09:34 PM

I've been wondering recently what keeps me from playing mages a lot of the time. And I think I've figured out part of the reason why.

I think mostly that at low levels mages have no defensive skills. (I am talking pre 15).
My question is, would it upset game balance to let them get the skill at level 1?
Since there is the cap on parry, shield block, and dodge until level 15 anyway.
I am just wondering, if it would be possible to lower the level they get parry at.
Certain classes are more a pain in the ass than others in this respect.

I've always felt, lowbie mage leveling should be soloable (for the first 15 or so levels) but be more squishy (lower hp).
I think it would be much better if they atleast got parry at a lower level if not at level 1.
I was just hoping to see if it would be a good idea or not.
I'm sure a lot of thought was put into game design, but I honestly think this change will be good for the game.
It also MIGHT save me from those low level rage deletes on mages. XD

Thanks.

Man, this is so not the reason not to play mages. Wands are the reason not to play mages. Get with the program!

I just hate dying pre-wand and shield spell.
I dont think its horribly broken, just not as fun as it could be.

I've solo'd every class in the game to at least 20 at some point, for what it's worth.

But maybe it just seems easy to me because I know about a lot more lowbie quests than any one character can actually do.

So, you were probably well off to begin with. I'm talking about making the class easier to play for anyone, including newbies. Not just you <3.

I do a lot of quests too. But I like getting my combat abilities up too while I'm playing a mage instead of just powering to 15 where I get parry. (Aka finding a group and power leveling to 15). Or doing a crap load of quests. Searching for quests on a lowbie mage can be dangerous as well.

Making mages easier to play is a bad idea imo.

That not a single one of the top ten most deathful shifters put a practice into it.

I'm not really sure what conclusions to draw from that, though.

...you post this.

Bravo good sir. Bravo.

PS I've tried to PK at that ranks with a shifter doing what you claim will make someone distended and trust me it's easier to just roll a human warrior/assassin/thief and do it (that's not to say though that your level 11 shifter can't kill people because he can). Paws of the cheetah allows you to dodge about as much as you parry before you get the skill (IE 1 every 15 or so times). The wands you can get at those levels aren't going to hit for more than a MUTILATE and your skill in wands is going to be around 80% at best. Sure, if you got a great pit loot/loot period you could do it, but like I said, much easier to just roll human assassin/thief/warrior.

I was pointing out that Shapeshifters come with a low level avoidance type defensive skill.

I was just joking about how great it was and the peanut gallery had a Pro moment.

You completely derailed the thread. Which was supposed to be constructive.
You do realize that you posted more in this thread than the threads creator, right?
It's kinda silly. I would like you a whole lot more if you didnt do crap like that.

Oh well.

I already got a response from who I wanted to.
Pro's opinion doesn't matter to me. I play the game how I want to play it.
If mages had parry at level 1, I would probably play them more often.
End of story.

If the Imms see fit to change it, they will. Arguing with Pro is a waste of my time and yours as well.

This is what I do..

Make sure your dex is maxed somehow.

Go to Teth Azeleth, Udgaard, and Evermoon and pick up equipment. Sell some, use some.

If you can't find anything, quit for a few hours or so and log back in.

Buy two entwined rings from the hamsah docks (cheap).

Buy stuff from the bazaar.

Get hide of rhino.

90% of the time I tank better than any warriors/assassins/thieves/rangers pre-form because of the massive AC.

Can do the same. Someone said newbies wouldn't know this, but I think the contrary. Newbies (I'd think) are more likely to pump AC over players who have been here longer. I hardly care/think about AC now, but when I first started I always went for the heaviest AC I could find.

You don't get hide of the rhino, sure, but you can get armor potions at the very least.

Any new player isnt going to really know what good ac gear is.
And new players don't get identify until level 15.
So, while you may be right, it doesnt sound like a good solution.
