#4459, "May we please have a mage cabal?"

Someone had touched a little on this below in the post “Where is my cabal”, and the absence of a magic cabal is really noticeable.

Just a few ideas to prevent a Master re-do:

1. Now the no chaotics, 10-20th level admissions, tome, and spell learning requirements seems cool, can we keep those?

2. Perhaps consider a leadership structure more akin to “The High Tower of Sorcery” in dragonlance, where you’ve got 3 leaders, one for each alignment; perhaps where they can only induct one shift over, i.e. goodies can’t induct evils and vice-versa but neutrals can induct anyone.

3. Also, what was odd about Master for most of its history is that there was less to read in the tower then in the Battlerager’s village. Perhaps defining exactly what’s expected and what’s not allowed for each alignment would be better to prevent scenes of good masters helping evil ones rank? Again, sort of how the HTOS is organized in dragonlance. Plus a library on cabal goals and magic in general would kick-ass.

4. Not begging for mental knife back, but perhaps powers designed to help lower-ranked mages survive a little better? Also, not begging for brew back either, but the ability to make rods/scrolls/staves with, say, a sick cool-down time would be cool

5. A RP focus on what the old masters were. Perfection of The Art, exploration of Thera, discovery of new magical items, and twacking those ragers when things get too crazy.

Just whatever you do, please don’t call it “The Coven”.

Anyways, for my second, unannounced idea, with someone to directly oppose the battleragers, perhaps Nexus would work? Nexus seemed like a really cool idea that failed because it turned into the rager-ganking squad.

Why not add a command called “balance of Thera” which would work somewhat like a “which items” command at the altar of any cabal?

The balance could be determined, in perhaps this way:

*Once a week the active p-files get scanned.

*A ratio is created based on the raw number of good aligned chars as opposed to evil aligned chars. Neutrals aren’t counted at all.

*Another ratio is created based on the raw numbers of orderly aligned chars as opposed to chaotic ones. Neutral ethoses, (NG, N, NE) aren’t counted for this comparison.

51-49% is “balance”
54-46% is “good/evil/order/chaos grows strong”
55%+ is “G/E/O/C rules Thera”

So, if good and evil are in balance, but 53% of PCs are orderly, the moderator would respond:

“There is balance, but order grows strong.”

If the ratio is 52% for goodies and 56% for orderly, the moderator responds:

"Good grows strong, while order rules Thera."

So instead of just running around ganking ragers, the nexans now have a hazy picture of the balance. What they choose to do to correct it, well, there are an infinite number of ways you can do that.

Just an idea. Perhaps the %s could be adjusted or hero chars could count for more, ect.
