#35168, "Con Loss"

Few people tend to con loss characters. I'm guessing less than 5 percent of characters and and most of those are prob the same players.

For me, seeing a steady indication of loss is disheartening. Their are far to many other negatives associated with dying in the game.

Exp loss

Coin loss

EQ loss

Time Loss

"The fact that you lost" loss

"Can't reenter that area explore loss".

Not to mention you may have just fed an unholy (Making a future loss more probable) or gave a Necro a zombie, your corpse reveals your location, and you gave an opponent some edge points.

I hear people who con die say, "It doesn't make that big a difference." Well that's just not true, it does. It makes a huge difference in terms of Time spent recovering from various injuries, diseases, poisons, hp loss.

I wonder how many other players delete because they don't like seeing their con diminish knowing it's going to have a substantial negative impact on their character at a later date.

If you're playing character you enjoy roleplaying, you shouldn't delete the character. When you don't enjoy the character then delete. Giving up a good character over minor setbacks like few deaths and losing a few con is a flaw of you specifically as a player. You give up characters too easily over minor setbacks. You should learn to understand that the character isn't tainted due to that setback, as it happens to everyone. Con loss and age death are good for the game as they prevent stagnation and populate lower ranks with veteran characters.

I've only con-died three characters, but over the course of their lives I realized the value (despite the pain) of the con-loss/death system.

A young adventurer should be brash and fearless. A 'young' or 'mature' pincersvirf at level 35 should be charging groups of three mages. Odds are greatly in favor of at least one of them dying, but maybe you'll get two or even all three. The worst-case-scentario is that you die. And what price do you pay? Some gear that can be (usually) easily replaced. Also, 1/3 CON.

By the time you've entered old age and you're down to 8 CON things have changed for the way you behave. Your begin to calculate things like "Well, I've only got 15 deaths left, and he has his lieutenants. I should wait for a more opportune time." It's a way of (in many cases) prodding people to act more wisely.

Also, it opens the door to the CON quest, which, in my opinion, is pretty cool.

Just for the record: I hate losing con, but appreciate the side effects of the system.

But I don't see value in loss.

As such, I play conservatively through out all of my characters lives.

Actually I think this is a great point. It does provide an IC incentive to become a wiser and more cautious adventurer, as is fitting for an old veteran.

As I play mostly Villagers, having an "uber set" isn't really much of an issue.

Loss of Con is the main thing that makes me weigh the odds of a battle at hero.

Loss of gear doesn't phase me. If I were worried about it I could go play that other game...Word of War...something. The one with pictures.

I could offer up suggestions that I think are better for the game. Certainly better than anything your angry ass has ever done for the game.

This post wasn't about dwarves by the way.

huh?

You just outlined something that you think is a problem. There is no solution put forward. And no I do not think it is a problem.

I must disagree with the entire system is that your logic?

I'm suggesting what I think would be an Improvement, and asking for opinions, so if you and the Anti-Pro's would kindly step aside and not turn this into a flame fest, maybe some more moderate posters would like to offer an actual opinion in reasonable manner.

A lot of people hero in 50 hours and delete by 100, but for those who shoot for 500 hours or are risk takers, the con aspect of the game looks a little different.

But lets face it. People who play dwarves do so for the funny accent.
