You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

#2948, "New spell idea"

"Fog"

We have faerie fog (to make people visible) and faerie fire (to keep them visible) but what about Fog, to hide people.

Invokers have "noxious cloud" (Fire/Air elements)
Invokers have "incendiary cloud" (Fire/Air elements)

Introducing... FOG! (Cold/water/air elements)

It could fill an area, and then begin expanding (as level and wind dictate, obscurring scans, and possibly even better abilitys as level of caster and perhaps even Mastery of elements calls for)

So, could do anything from, obscure anyone from seeing anything in a scan, seeing anything at all in a single room, perhaps not affected by air/cold shields.

Make Electrical spells more active (since the cold/watery air would be a conduit for charge/discharge)

And whatever other ideas may come..

Comments? Flames, etc?

(This post inspired by my driving to a Notary in the Fog this evening)

I think making it a combo of the air and ooze path would make more sense. I like the idea.

I also like the idea of smog (though, it seems like we'll be quickly saturating the world with multiple types of fog)

Though, I do like the added incentive (if it were to be) of fog (being water borne) to enhance electrical attacks, because like any invoker knows "I dont study electricity because it sucks"

I've seen far too many "I dont even study that path, because of "x" roleplay reason" but that real reason is because lightning sucks, or so people believe.

I did love pillar when Invokers first branched into elements, and I'd love to kill with it.

We need to balance out Electricity again!

This sounds cool. I like the idea of a creeping area-blind. You can't see or scan in affected squares, but once you're out of the fog there are no lasting effects. Combat can still be initiated via area spells. Probably make it so people can still look in directions and get info, otherwise it could be abused in cursed mazes.

Maybe lessen the effect for people with natural infravision, cast infravision or dark vision. Others who are just wearing glowing gear (or carrying a light) get the shaft.
