You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Okay, in CF you can age die. This tends to make me believe they put emphasis on the realism of age then.

So my question is this:

Why do you see 98 year-old humans running around assassinating people, or 1000 year-old elves doing backflips
and sommersaults off of tables?

Granted I understand it is a RP game, but like I have stated. YOU CAN AGE DIE. Which means, YOUR ASS IS OLD!
I mean, I would like to see something like 51 Human Ret Bill, Retired Weaponmaster. This person would be
exempt from pk, and would lose most of the skills given to them by their guild. It would be instead like
a wise man who could recant their past, and be there more as an advisor or whatever. Sure not as many
people would hang around to age die, but for those that did it would be a chance for them to basically RP
their exsistance and maybe sit in some advisory position to their cabal or what not. This would happen when
say they have somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 or so hours left. I think it would really complete the
cycle of life depicted in CF. Maybe even throw in some sorta 'fountain of life' quest that would allow a
player to further their fighting into un-natural ages. I guess, I just think of my 87 year-old grandfather
trying to take his axes from his shed and pincering some 30 year-old man with them. Any thoughts anyone?

This sounds horribly non-fun.

Why penalize people for playing a character for a long time? Personally, I'm happy when I see longer-lived characters (most recently Ghuishoc) providing a sense of continuity to the game. It's why we've made deleting less convenient, etc.

There are some side effects on aging. However, you'll be surprised many fantasy characters still hold a good sword arm even after 60 years of age.

For CF-wise, once you age die, it means your heart gave out, even if you are at full constitution. Unless by divine intervention, in which a person is supposed to pass away or immort or maybe lich, most of the characters have a short time after death to send their good-byes.

I definitely don't want too many 'retired' characters hanging around advising or whatever, when the game is all about adrenaline-rush with pk.

Perhaps it's to stop an hour of consequence free exploring... but as Ghuishoc lived in Arkham he could not get to the Chasm to sit out his hour.

I had no way to fly or buy a boat.

An imm was kind enough to transport me upon request and I'm just glad there was one on.

Not sure if you would want to change this with 'fly' or a hidden boat.

Just a thought.

I'd think that if a person wanted to use their last hour after age dying a character for consequence free exploring... so be it. I would think you have earned that right.
