#2756, "Make save vs breath more useful"

Save vs breath is pretty useless right now. Why not make things interesting and allow save vs breath to protect from having gear melted by breath attacks. I think this idea will send IMM approval ratings through the roof.

That's kind of what save vs. breath does presently. You know, helps vs. breath attacks.

I believe he meant that saves vs breath have very limited use right now.
Nobody actually wears them just to reduce occasional
damage from dragons. Even if a chance of melting is lowered it is still just a chance, and I won't jump on a dragon with my glowing/humming shinies.
Perhaps if let us say 30 saves vs breath would make you immune to melting completely, people would consider to gather appropriate equipment.

Not for nothing, but 30 saves vs. spell isn't going to make you immune to sleep either.

I understand your motivation, however this approach makes saves vs breath almost useless.

30 saves vs. spell don't make you immune to sleep, nevertheless they help in many other situations. That is not so with save vs. breath.
Personally I think when a person decides to sacrifices eq slots to gather some saves vs. breath instead of damroll or save vs. spell it would be cool if he would get some benefit from it. Immunity to melting is something I could consider when I choose to drop my damroll or hit points.
It is similar to an approach to shifters. Water forms are limited in use, so they are powerful in their homespace.
Save vs. breath are very limited in their use, so it would be good if they give something real in those rare situations.
After all, invoker's shields give you much more, not only immunity to melting but immunity to breath damage as well.

The current situation with save vs. breath doesn't give a person any motivation to gather them. For example, a certain purohydra in low level swamp is melting gear on heroes like there is no tomorrow. With saves or not, many people would just avoid breathing dragons when they have something to lose. In general it is not fun to gather another expedition to Hell, for example, when you stepped into random melting gear mob.

I don't urge you to make 30 saves vs. breath = imminuty.
I just support the point that now they are useless and they need some boost. Imminity to melting is just an example of what would make people to consider these saves. Very possible there are other rewards, but not just damage reduction, because people would not bother with these saves just to avoid some damage from 1% of mobs in CF.

Maybe up the protection vs. melting your stuff just a little. I had tested in the past and didn't even think it protected it at all. I assembled a divinely protected against breath suit once. And it all got melted in one quick battle with the ancient red. I think two breaths and it was almost all wiped out. Could be just bad luck, but I still think it would be nice to see it uped some.

I think his question is based on something I said which, given your response, now seems incorrect. I said that I thought save vs. breath helped reduce the damage taken by breath attacks, but probably didn't do anything to prevent gear from being destroyed.

Would you ever face lets say the ancient white or red dragons or High Lord while wearing :

for the sake of argument you're a non-rager giant warrior wearing :

2x Dragon slayer
white worm torso
white worm leggings
white worm armguards
two seantryn signet rings
two ivory unicorn pendants
cloak of the empress
etc etc etc

Point being, with your divinely vs breath would you think that you'd have a safe enough chance of not blowing apart your armor (the ones that can be blown apart) in a long fight versus a dragon?

Mostly people believe even with divinely vs breath anything that can be blown apart has a decent chance of getting blown apart. Almost no one I know will gear vs breath purposefully since it doesn't even seem to protect your non-save vs breath gear. Its sorta like the shield spec anti-breath skill, its nice but I've never seen someone risk their gear since it fails regularly and is really just a minor perk.
