#2537, "Don't touch me"

Okay, I just have to voice a pet peeve of mine.
I absolutely cannot stand it when people ignore rp and use socials like poke, tackle, shove clasp or any of the other close-contact socials on their enemies. For example, if I'm an orc, and you're an elf, you should not poke me after I tell you not to, because obviously as an orc I'm not going to be standing there letting you poke me.
Just because it's possible within the confines of the game to use the poke action repeatedly on someone, doesn't mean you should keep doing it once they make it clear that their character would not be standing there letting themselves get poked.
You can "emote tries to poke OrcGuy" and leave it up to the orc whether or not it works. Tor something like that if you want. But it's stupid to keep poking someone when you know that they would not let you.
I really wish there was a command "nocontact" that makes it so that contact socials cannot be performed on you. As if you had a blade barrier.

your absolutly right, as an orc your not going to let an elf poke to over and over again... so why are that elves' fingers still attached?

your absolutly right, you did make yourself clear that you don't want to be poked... and yet, that elves fingers are still attached.

your absolutly right, why are you letting that elf poke you in the ribs instead of ripping it's fingers off like the orc you are!? > >I really wish there was a command "nocontact" that makes it so >that contact socials cannot be performed on you. As if you >had a blade barrier.
There just might be. it's called "murder <name>"---Enjoy!

There just might be this thing called a PK range also.
If you happen to be in the same PK range then yes, you could kill the person. Thanks for stating the obvious.
But even if you are in their PK range, murdering someone who is doing innapporiate things is not always an option. I used the elf/orc example because it makes the point. But a maran can't haul off and kill an elf for poking him, and a tribunal can't go attacking in town just because he's being poked. If you use your imagination I'm sure you can figure out a dozen other situations where your character wouldn't want someone tackling, hugging or kissing him, but killing the person is not an option. There are also many cases where running away from the offender is not within a character's RP either.
Bottom line, your suggestion to simply "murder <name>" is inapplicable in many situations. There are many possible scenarios where there are no possible responses in keeping with your character's RP.

Perhaps. But, in keeping with your character's RP, why not simply 'poke' them back? Now I don't suggest the two of you fall into a poking frenzy, but like you said, using your imagination could also get you out of some situations like that. For example: Tell them you'll break their fingers off if they touch you again. Or that you'll tie their nipples to their eyebrows if they don't stop. Try starting an inane conversation with them or something, just to throw them off that little throne they think they're on simply becuase the gods protect them from you. (or you could just hope like hell you enter each others range one day)
As for Tribunal, you could always wait for them to leave town and bludgeon (spelling) them with a dull object until they've learned a thing or two. Maran on the other hand, you could be nice, like you said and ask them to stop, or if your not the purest one of the bunch, call someone around their age to come make the stop. But yes, I understand your want for something like this. For certain roles this kind of this can become a problem.
But then again there always is the PRAY. And I hate to bring this up, I know it feels childish but, I believe a rule does say, that causing senseless spam for another player is against the rules. Do correct me if I'm wrong, but if they are simply poking you for ####s and giggles, then you have that right.

If you're an evil tribunal, you might indicate to them that their constant touching you is interfering with your ability to keep watch and therefore is interfering with you executing your duties as a tribunal. Just because OOC you know that it isn't slowing you down, them pestering you would essentially make you do a worse job if it were real life. Anyways, give them a firm warning or two, and then want them and slay them. Empty their goods into the spire.
If you're at the inn, ask an inn hippy to kick them out. The inn hippy will ask them to stop, and they probably will. If not, leave, or start killing bouncers at random.
If you're evil/neutral, sit there and poke them around a bit while calling in an Empire horde to rape them. Make sure to loot their corpse and sacrifice all their gear.
If you're a maran paladin and an elf is poking you in the butt... just leave I guess, or learn to like it, you're kind of out of luck.

It's a game dude, not a fantasy simulator. There's enough stupid informal rules of behaviour as it is.
