#2438, "Encouraging People to Play Orcs"

Ok, operating under the assumption that orcs are fine the way they are power wise.... How about tweaking their skills to make them a little more friendly (someone suggested this on the other forum). You've tweaked assassin skills gained at levels and that has cut down on their numbers a little it appears (low level convenience seems to have an affect on numbers of each class).

Every other melee class gets parry at 1 (some complete with shield block). It is a little discouraging playing a beater class that feels more like a mage (parry at 13, sucky dodge at 18, second attack at 10, dual wield at 19, third attack at 20).

How about:
Parry at level 1 (similar to other beaters)
Fast healing at level 6 (orcs are supposed to be good at absorbing damage, right? why do they get it at level 17? warriors get it at 6)
Dodge at level 13 (similar to warriors)
Dual wield at level 16 (warriors get it at 12, APs at 15)
Third attack at level 17 (warriors get it at 12, APs at 13)

This wouldn't change their overall power level at all. However, it would make orcs a lot more fun to play (for a class that spends much of their life running and isn't supposed to join a cabal and only has one hometown that can be ransacked by sylvans/marans).

That this would simply encourage orcs to hang out at low level even more. With orc ranking, I'm not sure why getting to 20 in like an hour is a problem anyway.

I haven't understood why this isn't done more often. With the xp-bonus and the expanded orc grouping range, ranking an Orc should be a breeze.

From just finishing an orc to level 42, it has been my experience in the later ranks especiall, yes, orcs do get that exp bonus grouping up, however in an all orc group no orc is good enough to tank the mobs that are high enough level to gain much of anything from, So I always grouped with healers, or ragers, sometimes another orc in the group... But then the orcs together see someone to mash.. Or some other interesting scenarios, it is very hard, or at least was for me to keep a group when with more than one orc in it, as well its even harder finding someone decent enough to stand in front of two orcs without looking over his shoulder the whole time, which I can vouch for if you get below 20% hp, my orc as well many others would jump on that bash in a heartbeat.
I have always liked how orcs seem on a different playing field as roleplay wise, without having to be a cabal, or even get along, but the problem I continually was facing is an orc is this massively damage dealing class yet I had a hard time sometimes with the slaves in the clan even in my later 30's.
So do we just keep hoping that mastered spinebreaker lands everytime you start getting low? Orcs flee at 50%, so ranking with the orc exp only really helps lower levels.
To the argument of not wanting orcs to sit at low levels if the skills levels were tweaked... Orcs dont want to sit, at all.
All of the orc nasty skills, you need to rank, period.
I ranked every chance I got and after a few months I was still at level 42 when I deleted.

If anything, i would like to see some type of increased healing aside from collecting skins, and some type of damage reduction on the factor that orcs are so brutal and grow up.. Hard, basically.

Far as the skills levels.. whatever i dont really care about that, I never personally got into the mechanics, I just learn what I can when I get it, but yes, orcs I believe are in deed need of some type of small revamp. It has taken a lot of drunken nights to put up with being so powerful, but so weak. Then again maybe that was the original design..

As far as orcs wanted to rank ASAP, I find that highly doubtful. They're at their pique power from 1-40. You don't need spinebreak or grapple to successfully kill someone.

Sunbeam has been tweaked so it's not so bad (being vuln to one of the 2 strongest powers in the game was nasty)

otherwise it's more just the style of the class that has it being perceived as not played that much.
