#2222, "Binder Thieves - Boring one trick ponies?"

First of all, I could be completely wrong since I have yet to try going all the way with one.

I've noticed that all the binder thieves skills up to about rank 33 or so rely on a successful blackjack. I can't tell you how fun it is once they're out but this seriously limits Binder thieves. No blackjack, you have nothing.

What I think we need is a way that the thief can perhaps use bindings in more interesting ways. For example, using a lasso they can try to trap people with a leg binding and send them to the floor at the same time. In this same way, perhaps let them try jamming on blindfolds if the person doesn't see them in the shadows next to them. Anything would likely help.

I realise how great they are with near perfect skills and killing but they are awful for ranking and anything else. They truly are boring since all the other thieves have interesting abilities (city ties have fun stealing more, poisoners can mess with ingredients and techniques, trappers can do something similar plus get some non-trap skills, thugs are just fun and so on...) binders just seem to be orientated about sleeping people and so much so that its just frustrating when you rarely ever see those pulled off. The binds seriously just come off so easily!!! Maybe there is some way you can change them around, make them tricksters with ropes but please expand them a bit from just dealing with binding victims. Maybe make it so their skills mean you can take quite a few options from other paths even going up to drag?

I wouldn't mind player input from this, everyone else think they're boring if you continually fail binds, have them fall off to soon or get others who untie victims?

Don't get me wrong, nice to play, just frustrating when there is so much to go wrong and you only have that one option. Its like a necro, but at least necro's have a lot more if their sleep fails.

Unless you mix your path, EVERY single skill is based upon a successful blackjack or the person being asleep. And while I do think that they are potentially the most deadly thief path I must agree that they are one trick ponies. If you fail to jack them then the best you can do is trip them if you have only studied under the binder path. I too thought about lassos/bolos all the damn time while I was playing my binders and I feel that you should get a skill really high up there that allows you to throw ropes in a way to allow you to bind hands and legs in combat. Of course this skill would be based upon your throwing ability as well as your ability in both bind hands and legs, and even then a great chance of failure. I think binding is my favorite thief class but yes, a failed jack means running away to try again another day.

You should have ended the post there.

And don't imagine much difference at Hero. The only thing I could possibly be wrong about is that they can go all the way in binding and half-way in another set.
