#2197, "Cabal idea"

Alright, since the losing of two cabals and the thought of a new cabal possible, I started hashing it out with a friend on possibilites and we came up with quite an interesting idea.

The idea is essentially a pure religious cabal. Empowered classes only, all types allowed, they form the Church. Each God has one representative Avatar (given a few extra powers, chosen by god, not necessarily needed) which sits at the Chosen table to discuss their goal.

Now we haven't really rehashed the idea that much, but the basic premise is the superiority of the empowered. Having almost military rule over most cities, they detest the Tribunals for their rule. Maybe a chaotic only cabal, since they're fanatical towards the Gods, whatever.

Just an idea. We've had magic-haters, tree-huggers, cops, criminals, imperials, goodies, evils, neutrals, dark-mages, light-mages, all-mages....
What about priests!

Discuss.

I also think that this would be an interesting idea. There is one big drawback though, and I think that this drawback influences a lot of other good ideas also. That drawback is PLAYER NUMBERS. It would be great to have huge throngs of people being swayed by speeches given in the market square, but when there are long amounts of time when only 5 players are even in Galadon the whole thing gets less interesting.

Who says the preaching needs to be taking place in Market Square?

One thing that might work well and be cool is to possibly have the Church hire or induct a bard to be the scribe for the Church or maybe one for each Sect. This way preaching could be done through bard notes.

Maybe there could also be a foyer or annex to the cabal church building that would be accessible by everyone (maybe where the Outer Guardian would be placed). This room is where people who want to know more about the various religions could go to inquire about it or something. While street preaching in Galadon or Hamsah might still be a viable option, more formal meetings could take place in this chapel.

Other cabals can transcend the boundaries of good and evil, such as Tribunal Master or Battle, because they fight for a single cause that can be interpreted in many ways.

The cabal you propose is based on religion. A religious zealot of Shokai has a completely different viewpoint as a religious zealot of Beroxxus. There is no room for the other in their world. Proposing that they "work together" to create a multidenominational Church of Thera is absurd. It goes against the basic tenets that define their faith.

If I am a shaman, I am certainly not going to want to share power with a cleric of the opposite alignment. I am going to do everything in my power to kill him.

On another note...

I hate the idea of preaching via bard notes and mass sermons. If there are a bunch of suckers standing around Market listening to some yahoo, I am going to take full advantage of that. Hrm, actually I might like that.

If he decides to "force preach" by constant yelling in Galadon, everyone is going to kill him. The answering shouts of "Shut Up" might not drown him out, but it will make for a less enjoyable experience for people who want to be left alone.

Personally, I think there are too many bard notes as is. I understand that people are roleplaying and having a good time. Cheers to that. I just wish there was a way to "unsubscribe" from the mailing lists of certain bards.

Frankly, if an IMM's name isn't by it, I skip over the note. The only good bard notes that I can think of lately are the Astirath ones.

Bash bash bash. Trip trip trip.

Ingvar had some pretty good ones too.

This is an interesting concept. I personally really like religious-type roleplay and conflict and would love to see a lot more of it at CF. Organized religion has been talked about before though and always seems to be shot down. Personally, I think it is something that could add some real depth of character to the empowerment classes and make playing healers a lot less boring and more enjoyable for those who like to roleplay. The only real "religious zealotry" I've ever seen is occassionally from an Acolyte or Paladin. It would be cool to have some real preaching and proselyting going on and some religious wars.

I do see a couple of really big problems with this cabal idea, though. Religion is very often based on alignment and since that is true, the gods oppose each other. Therefore how could they all sit in council together and have a common goal? I can't see Shokai and Scarabaeus followers agreeing on much of anything, can you? So while this would be a great thing to have a Church, and I do think it would be cool, it wouldn't make sense to have all the religions represented in it.

Is there anyone else who would like to see some more religious conflict in the game, or is this something we'd rather not do?

I really like the idea and was hoping something like this would be thought up not only by myself and some of my friends, glad to see others are thinking something similar. Maybe you could have different sects of the cabal where certain religions could do their own thing but still come to agreements on certain issues. Sort of like the UN I guess, where you each do your own thing, but have meetings to keep everything straight. Just a thought. I would really like to see something like this come together!
