#2180, "Recent bard changes"

I don't think it's really fair to downgrade the 'fiend' song that much.. I mean, come on, double the time to be able to sing a new fiend (to what 22, 24 hours ), AND be able to sing it only once (now comes an example), last night of the six or seven fiends that I sang, I only landed 2, because by the time I came in the room and typed my stuff, the person had moved.. result lagged, rotted, and 22/24 hours of waiting .. I mean, that's just mean.. it already was a challenge to focus on pk-ing with a bard, but now it just becomes boring.. I mean, it already takes 150 mana to sing it, and that makes it one of the most tiresome songs/spells/supplications (alright there are others that require more, but you get the picture). IMO there was nothing really wrong with the fiend, but now it's like 'worthless':
1) Takes a lot of mana
2) If you miss it, you're screwed
3) If you land it, there's less than 1 on 3 chance that it actually will endanger your opponent (only the strong ones are really difficult, for the others you just q return and heal; and even then, they're only a real pain in the ass for duergars and fires)
4) After you landed it you have to wait 22/24 hours

Any comment perhaps ?

With this change, you're not going to burn anywhere near as much mana on fiend.

It used to always be the way it is now. At some point it
got changed and I'm not sure why. It's still incredibly
powerful and bards aren't exactly hurting. You just have
to use a bit of thought with it now instead of spamming
it, waiting for the victim to either die or recall/win and
come back, then repeating ad nauseum.

It used to always be this way ? I've played bards for like what, four years now, and I can assure you, it has been like it was a couple of days ago since I started.. there are still some tactics that a bard can use, and I'm sure I'll figure out some more, but then again, for most of those, a high(er) rate of succeeding is required.. Oh well, I still think it's too big a change, but thanks for the answer anyways.

Bards relied far too much on fiend.

One fiend every 24 hours? That's not that bad!

I'm sure you'll come up with some new ways to make sure you land the fiend.

I've been playing bards my whole life and really, there are many occasions you don't use fiend.. I use it as a starter for tearing up (large) groups of imperials, or for the surprise element.. the rest of the times I start with dirt, sleep, trip or murder.. I might go with a bit longer waiting time than it was before, but come on, the person walks east the mili-second before I sing my fiend, and I have to wait a whole day ? That's a bit lame, really.. This will make your fiend ability stuck at 75 percent forever, btw.. and I can assure you, you miss it a lot at 75 percent. And the 2 rounds of lag you get from singing the fiend to a guy who's no longer there, is more than enough for someone to bash or trip or whatever you.. Btw, I'd make it a 1/4 chance (4 grades: see through it, a weak one, a middle one, and a hard one) that it can be lethal..

I can't remember the last time I fought a bard who could sing fiend who didn't attempt to fiend me. Even when I played my drow axe spec bards tried to fiend me.

When I played my fire ap, bards travelled from all over Thera just to enjoy a go at fiending me (and the one bard who killed me was a bard who couldn't sing fiend).

If I was to make a change to fiend, it would be this:

Make fiend a song that can only be used against groups, not against individuals. You could justify this by saying it feeds on mass hysteria.

But then again, who would want a near certain death song against fire giants to be toned down.

And #### that you never sings it, not one fight against gwy when you did not sing it.

I never said I never sang it for starter.. but I will use it in particular against groups and, depending on the class, on duergars and fires.. but I'm not going to display my strategies, right..

>the rest of the times I start with dirt, sleep, trip or murder

if you don't use fiend why would you use anything other than when you don't see me to start combat?

No offense, but that's a rather stupid question. I have different tactics for different situations, different classes and different races.. As I said, groups is fiend in 90 % of all cases, unless of course there are neutrals involved (not long ago, I had such a situation with Lakila, Dranolian and Ibakhain), then I sing them asleep.. As an elf I really fear rot greatly, so when I fight shamans I'll mostly start with 'murder' or 'dirt', until I 'when you don't see me'-ed them (but even then I still tend to just 'murder' them).. Healers is 'cold be sleep' when they're alone, and either fiend or dirt when they're in group .. and so on and so on.. I do admit that 'when you don't see me' will be sung in 99.99 % of all cases, but it's not really a good song to start with, unless you have lightning reflexes, or run into them and surprise them.. and even then ..
