I've always known some people cared more about their shinies than others. I've also believed that full looting helped more than it hurt, due to being able to rid a powerful character of powerful items should they die and general ease of passing equipment through the playerbase--from looting hands to looting hands.
However, I have some recent antidotal(sp?) evidence that makes me think it might not be worth it. I was playing Diablo 2 with a friend. She died and lost like 50k gold. She still had like 150k in the storage. She immediately rage quit. Hasn't played in a week and has no intention of ever playing again. For her, the loss of gold she didn't really need mattered more than the joy of playing the game. I used to tell her she should try CF out. I don't anymore.
As designers of CF, you have no doubt given a lot of thought to the delicate balance between the good that comes from full looting and the bad that comes from full looting. I'd love to hear some of the Imms' thoughts on this, and if any have considered that the unfun of full looting might be greater than the fun of full looting for the average gamer in today's market of games with limited consequences.
Note: I'm not really interested in hearing about detailed changes (or suggestions) to specific mechanisms. I'm more interested in the rationale behind the current approach and what it hopes to achieve, versus what is achieved through other approaches (i.e. why they're worse).
Thanks.

P.S. If an Imm would ever like to respond to my post from a few weeks ago about events enticing people to play, I'd appreciate it. (It's in the thread about Double-XP-Weekend.)
