You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

Some of the special-purpose forums are listed below along with their replacements (as of writing):

#12911, "[Idea] Nofollow and Trust echos..."

I had a thought about 'nofollow'. Sometimes people forget that they have it on, and for others it can be quite a pain trying to let the other person know. Same with 'trustgroup'.

I was thinking it'd be a groovy idea to create an echo for these situations. For example:

I type:
follow Bob

then I get the ol' "He doesn't allow you to" message. But Bob, at the same time would see:

Saith is trying to follow you but you don't let him.

Maybe even through in a "see help follow" just in case.

For the trustgroup issue it would fall under the same guildlines.

I thought it would be a nice addition since it can sometimes take a good 5-6 minutes to try to explain to someone how to trust the group while staying as IC as possible. I know it's simple enough just to send them a tell explaining it, but I still think this is much better.

Tell me what you think.

follow is just in the same catagory as trust so I figured why not throw it out there for both.

Seriously, if you're talking about teaching another player trust commands, you need to pray to the imms for a forced help.

If you're just trying to tell them to (ICly) quit being ornery about trust and follow, the above two work.

I know, but if you can avoid getting the Imm's involved (past coding this little tidbit) and taking them away from any project or business they may be attending to, what't the harm?

Sneaking people wouldn't give an echo, nor would you see it if asleep.

I've been killed because I forgot to nofol and I've killed because of it.
