is there anyway for a felar to fight a porcupine without taking lots of damage because of claw attacks?

1) Get damage reduction and you'll get less hurt.

2) Shift into a form that doesn't have normal attacks or has good dam redux. I think crocodile would work well in this case. Cobra works against porcupine too, to some extent, having only one attack. You'd have to use your regen to help your case, though.

3) No, you cannot turn the claw attacks off when wielding a spear.
