You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

#11441, "Charge for polearms."

The (directional) charge skill.

I hate to even think about an overlapping skill, but I think it’d be good. As a well learned and specialized polearm user, I’d like to have a bit of variation with the charge command. Instead of just charging an opponent, it seems reasonable that the nature of the skill would allow me to drive him in a particular direction.

To me, this adds a bit more strategy into the polearm skill set. Instead of every polespec waiting on an attack so they can charge set, this allows me to take greater initiative in controlling the combat. Tack on one round of lag to the driven foe and two to me, the charger, and now the juices are cooking.

I realize this skill is somewhat similar to the ranger ambush, or maybe even pull. So, make it work only in a room marked as civilized, because rugged terrain makes it too difficult to naturally drive someone. This extra skill becomes available at level 27 to a polespec when charge is learned into the 90s%. That’s it. I like tactical versatility, and I think this helps add a bit of flare to polearm users.
