You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

Some of the special-purpose forums are listed below along with their replacements (as of writing):

Allow things like defenses to improve by learning from mistakes.

I think the only way this even becomes reasonable is if you make learning regularly much harder than it is today. Honestly, I'm not even sure where I'd put the checks for failure in the code.

Does a successful dodge, then also count as a failure to distance/spin/evade/parry/shield block? Potentially learning all of them on a single attack.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Hey. Good point, that would be kind of funny to see a bunch of improves when you take a hit. The main thing I was thinking of is when mages get parry/shield block they almost never get it perfected because they're fighting mobs that put the hurt on them and they rarely successfully defend. This way they could take damage and at least learn some defenses in the process.

I guess I just wish that defenses were easier to perfect without 'gaming' the system. I can do it with a few classes. It takes some work but I've found it well worth it from a ranking perspective.
