You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

#65, "Focus command"

I love the random skill gains we get based off of wis, but it rarely improves something that is useful to me. I don't know how many times in my life I've had things like armor, improved compare, or infravision level up when I really needed something else to improve like a particularly difficult invoker spell or assassin kick.

I would like to propose a skill focus command, once set you have a greater chance to learn in that ability when you gain a level. Maybe it can also give you a slight bonus to learn that skill/spell during regular use as well, at the cost of slightly decreasing the odds of learning other skills/spells. The idea is to make it so you can truly focus on the important stuff when you are willing to sacrifice other areas of improvement.

Such a command could be set at the guild master like discuss, and either have a long timer associated with it, or else only work a certain number of times in your character's life like maybe once per level.

It was created as a little random perk for gaining a level, and to take away some of the practice grind. Allowing you to focus it, even for a small chance at getting better, and I can list the 3-5 skills any player will be focused on during their lifetime.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!
