You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

Some of the special-purpose forums are listed below along with their replacements (as of writing):

#529, "Terrain change indicators"

It's a small thing; cosmetic at a glance, but downright useful too!

I'd like to see a pecho for when you change terrain from one room to another. Specifically, water and air rooms.

So, if you are in a land room and walk onto a watery surface, you should see something like:

look
Overlooking the Aryth Ocean

north
You begin traveling upon the water.

On the Aryth Ocean

down
You dive below the surface.

In the Aryth Ocean

I am leaving the descriptions very basic, as they should apply to all situations (not just water...like OOZE!!!)

The same sort of thing could be applied to Air rooms.

You can tell easily/quickly what type of terrain you are in...

blue = water
white = civilized
green = wilderness

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

...I just thought an actual echo would be nice.

If someone gets blinded and is running around with 1 hour left on their water breathing, seeing a "You dive under the water" echo would be pretty nice!

Also, this wouldn't be dependent on your prompt options. I don't know if most people have their terrain type unless they are rangers/druids/assassins.

I hear you, but I also don't want an excessive amount of text floating around, and this one is accomplished by text that is already in the game.

Sure would...and I have to say that's pretty niche. Even when you dive under the water AND your water breathing runs out THEN you'll get a message that you need to be getting the hell out...and 90+% of the time that means "go up".

It has nothing to do with prompt options. It's color options, coloring the title of each room name.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

You can blow bubbles under water, not on it.

You can splash on the water, not under it.
