Not sure how it works.... but does the autocreep logic fail when you're blind? If it doesn't, you should probably step out of camo and into civilized areas when you can't see.

I'm more inclined to leave it as is. Rangers moreso than thieves or assassins are better off in their own terrain/camouflaged than accidently walking out into civilization. I never intended to make it the equivalent of hide/sneak, but something close. So long, and thanks for all the fish!

For exactly the reasons Zulg states, namely, I want to know and make a conscious decision to enter non-wilderness.

To make a long story short, I want to know when I leave the wilds it is on purpose. At first, I admit it was a bit weird to have to manually "vis", and had the exact same idea as you. But I've gotten to like it.
When I'm hunting or scouting some PK's, I don't want to accidentally creep out onto a road or river and have them see me.. (I don't have every wilderness/civilized border memorized yet) the "You can't creep in that direction" is a cool safety net for not accidentally doing this and spooking your prey. Especially because you can't scan and tell if an adjoining area is wilderness or not.
Also, I don't have every step memorized through the wilds, but I can get 90% there usually. So, when I'm running from one end of Thera to the other through the wilds, I like the fact that if I overspam a direction onto or across a road/river I'll be stopped right there if I'm creeping- ensuring I'll stay camoed. Otherwise, I suppose I'd be spamming directions followed by "cam" every few steps. I also use these wilderness/civilized borders as a sort of "marker" at various checkpoints in some wilderness paths I know and like to just be stopped there.
The current autocreep is also identical to how it works when using a creep alias. I like it .
