Would anybody mind explaining to me what the hell I did wrong so I can at least try not to do it again?

The gist was your newbiechan looked like a troll (thanks, Krilcov) and the imm in question pulled the trigger maybe a smidge too fast.

that your char had a disease/sickness and thought you were just being funny.

But you had a sickness. I think you can heal the majority of those at a healer.
