Sure - this one's pretty easy. If I'm vis, my shrine is an open door for any goodie to come talk about anything. If you say my NAME and I'm on I'll get a blurb about it - that's just how the code works. Sometimes when I'm vis there's a literal line in my shrine waiting to chat, so I can understand why you'd want to wait for me to not be vis - feel free to poke around the shrine and pray something interesting at me and ask for me if I'm not vis, I'm on pretty much every day from work, though I might actually be working and not able to interract. Still, it's good for me to be able to see in the pray logs that you want to talk to me.
As far as coming to me for religion, anyone who's followed me basically just follows a progression of learning about what courage, combat, purity mean to them. I ask them for some general defintions, challenge what they think, ask them to expand on that. So the best advice I can give is to come to me wanting to talk about something - it's not a good idea to come and be like HEY I want to follow you!! Cause then I lead all the conversation and that's just kinda boring.
As far as newbies go, I think most newbies would tell you that I as a player and thus Baer as a persona have a lot of patience for newbishness and in fact go out of our way to try and make the game more welcoming for newer players. We WANT you to play the game. We want you to have a good experience. I know it's not 100 % possible to make that happen, but I always try and keep in mind that this is a game and it should be enjoyable for the players.
Cheers and hope to see you in my shrine!!
