We're out of town this weekend, continuing our tradition of tackling the Mall of America on Black Friday. Wish us luck!

I grew up in the 'burbs of Chicago, so I'm also familiar with black friday on Michigan Avenue. Also a good time!

It's just our annual-or-so pilgrimage to worship at the shrine of commerce.

Why do you insist to go shopping during the America's busiest shopping day instead of eating Thanksgiving leftovers?

Some people enjoy the competition. Others like the huge sales. Most have been brainwashed into believing that it's their capitalist American duty to spend heavily during the Holiday season and boost the economy. (This goes back to 1941, when FDR signed an amendment changing Thanksgiving from the "last" Thursday in every month to the "fourth", which wasn't always the last, to extend the holiday shopping season.) In any case, the spectacle of Black Friday shopping is worth witnessing at least once.

I'm totally not hard core about it, you'll never see me getting up at 3 am so I can stalk some parking lot in the freezing cold weather to buy a TV I don't need. But I like to shop normal hours and this has just sort of evolved into a fun tradition.
