While I could see you would be a good Herald, every time I talked to you, I had to painfully spell things out to you like you were a small child. Between that, and your often ambiguous responses, Binabik resolved to avoid you unless she needed something of you.

No hard feelings or anything, but I have to ask:
Was it your intention to come off as annoying?

You having the same name as a character from Memory, Sorrow and Thorn, which came out ten years ago and was a bestselling series.

Actually, you have everything rather reversed. You, like several others, decide you're going to create a character and its rp will include speaking strangely, either some other language, or as a pirate, or as a giant, or whatever. Which is fine. But then you whine and complain when others don't understand you like you want them to. You can't have it both ways. You can't talk weirdly and then expect people to just pretend you're talking normally.

Frankly, I had the same impression of you, that you were being deliberately annoying. The difference is, I was speaking plain English. So I guess the question is, was it your intention to come off as annoying?

No offense. You're not alone in this, lots of people do it with their characters.

I interacted with him on more than just Stevers.

Bezzilan always asked questions to what I felt was rather obvious.
Example being:
a: Have a tattoo, do you?
bezz: Have a what?
a: A tattoo..?
bezz: You're going to have to tell me what you mean, friend

Things like that.
I never really understood if it was just your RP or you.

Oh well.

Daev is almost right, it was a sort of dare. Bezzilan was the result of some talk in IRC one night several months ago (and bez was closer to three months, not two, whoever made a comment about time below), about how funny it would be to have a huge Herald posse roaming thera, but entirely no pk. You were required to end with a 0/0 pk record (I'm still bitter somehow I got 1% of someone's death, really pisses me off, but what can you do ). I know a few others rolled chars up but nobody lasted, just me.

It was unique. Which was one of the reasons I chose Rayihn, as her religion specifically mentions being unique. I might even say he was the only actually unique character in cf for a very long time. Not that that made him any better or worse than anyone else, but certainly different. The other reason of course that I'd never had reason to interact with the Rayihn persona, and wanted to see what that was like, and the tattoo of course.

I'm not going to engage in refuting or arguing with people or comments here. Mortals or immortals. Suffice to say some of the pbf comments are just tiny snippets and don't accurately reflect entire situations. The same with a few player comments. I will say I was a bit surprised that no imm ever commented on my never practicing fiend, or trip, which are the only two abilities that can only be effectively used on pc's. I thought that was sorta cool, but guess nobody else did. Oh, and I don't think I sent that many notes for myself. People need to differentiate between the notes from Bez himself, like his poems and such, and notes he sends on behalf of others. I rarely if ever sent any original work more than twice a week, usually just once a week. If that's too much, I'm not sure what is expected from bards. I always thought you were not roleplaying a good bard if you didn't do something artistic or bard-esque; otherwise you're just a weak warrior with strange magic-like song abilities.

I loved being friends with virtually everyone, even people who clearly didn't want to be friends with him. I just bullied them into it, mostly. Though I'm sure some of it was that people let their ooc feelings in and just don't want to be the Herald killer. Which was funny. Only three people ever attacked him more than once, in almost 500 hours, and I think only six people total. In his mind, if someone was spending time with him, that meant they weren't killing anyone or trying to kill anyone, so it was a victory right there, even if nobody else would choose the path of peace.

As I mentioned to Iunna, in his entire life, nobody ever held an Inn event other than him. Not one. Not even Zalenne. Which I know isn't necessary to be a Herald, but which I think is pretty sad. Having said that, I loved being a Herald and enjoyed almost every minute of it. I'm not sure why all heralds don't get all herald abilities, or at least more than one. Not sure why it would be over powered to have the special mix ability as well as taletell, or food making. You still have to do it at a bar, and you can only mix the eight drink types, for example. Perhaps there's a reason, but I was disappointed when I first saw that I couldn't make cool drinks, just the standard.

Event nights were fun, when people showed up. I encourage everyone to show up to these things. You have hundreds of hours on a character. Take an hour and go to events. Nobody loves pk as much as I do, and all that, but I'm telling you, it's the right thing to do. Gets people into roleplay, gets you interacting, and because events are both rare and only an hour or so it's not a big investment, but can have a big impact.

Bards are crazy powerful. And I explored like a madman. Obviously I didn't get any experience in pk'ing with a bard, so I'm no expert on that, but the songs themselves and what a bard can do I think I have a handle on, and they're potent.

I've a lot more to say but I'll just hold it until questions are asked that raise them, if they do. If not, c'est la vie.

Other than four characters, I liked everyone I talked to, and enjoyed every interaction. Unsurprisingly I met far more people than I could go through here, so I would ask you to say hi and comment and I'll return the favor and respond.

Caveat: I will mention three to say thanks.

Thanks to Rayihn for solid interactions. Our talks were usually fun, well emoted and relevant to my character. I think your tattoo is vastly underrated. I'm sorry you seem to be choosing to put her into dormancy and focusing on the other two. And I really did try to put that painting on one sheet so it would look like, you know, a painting. But it seems hardcoded that someone with human int can't pen more than 14 lines on a paper, even with high pen skill and high quality pens and paper. I hope you liked it though, I spent a bit of time on that one. I do have one question for you though: was there ever a thought about a funny/interesting title? Wondered what it takes to get a title of some sort, just a rp thing.

Thanks to Zalenne for the induct. Three months ago you were already roleplaying the tired and cranky old leader, who didn't want to bother inducting people because she was jaded from past inductees just quitting. I'm glad you overcame that, and wish you played more and our times meshed better.

Thanks to those that early on took me to places I "didn't" know. I tried hard with Bez to be more realistic about knowing places, especially explore places, so even if I already knew them as well as anyone, I played ignorant, and several people (Dupmasione comes to mind among others) were gracious enough to lead me around some. I tried to karmically return the favor by turning that around and leading others around some places the second half of my life, so perhaps there's some small satisfaction for those of you there. Thanks again.

Bottom line, was boring some, and lonely some, but all in all an enjoyable and for me successful character. Certainly one of a kind!

-The artist formerly known as Graatch.

I didn't waste anything. And I didn't age die him to bet. The whole thing was over months ago when nobody else did it. I played him because it was fun to play him. That's the point of a game.

As far as I know, only the high herald or the imms can ban anyone. Regular heralds can only toss. So no, I didn't ban you.

But it's hardcoded that if a pc attacks a certain number of times in the inn, you're automatically banned and need an imm to let you back in. You probably just tried to pk in the inn too much.

I'm still puzzled. I think I fought 3-4 times total in the Inn (in almost 700 hours) and I don't feel it's too much, though probably chasing/reengage counts as several attacks.

Which means you did it all on your own.

Pretty much every offensive command aggravates the bouncers, so
unless you just typed 'murder Iunna' and nothing during the fight, you
probably got yourself into trouble.

I'm really impressed that you took on that kind of challenge character that stretches your limits, and I have nothing genuinely bad to say. I hope you'll take the following bits of commentary in that spirit.

>I might even
>say he was the only actually unique character in cf for a very
>long time.

On one hand, from a sort of meta-game perspective, Bezzilan is a decidedly non-PK character from a PK-successful and presumably PK-enjoying player. That's really unique and impressive.

On the other hand, from a closer-to-IC viewpoint, or let's just say a viewpoint that doesn't take the player into account, Bezzilan is a Herald who isn't particularly interested in PK. Which is just about every Herald.

It always really impresses me when any player really plays outside their range or normal comfort zone, but I hope you can see both sides of that.

>People
>need to differentiate between the notes from Bez himself, like
>his poems and such, and notes he sends on behalf of others.

I can see the argument for that, but in practice, most people don't make that differentiation. I typically don't.

Thanks. You're right, it was challenging to play a char that could never think of pk'ing as an option or response.

But, you're slightly off on the reason the char was unique. It's not that he was a herald who wasn't interested in pk. It was rather that he was someone preaching pacifism in a world of killers. Even Selric followers would kill people from time to time, and said they would. I don't ever recall someone who would never ever kill a person, even if it meant he would die, even if they were attacking him, and tried to convince others to do the same. In a world where killing is the standard. If there has been someone like that, well, I stand corrected. But I personally have never heard of such a char.

As for the notes, I'm not sure what to do then. Say no to people who ask you to send a note out for them? Is sending one or two original works a week too much? Because that's what I did. I'm honestly not trying to argue about who is right or wrong, I want to understand what a well roleplayed bard is supposed to do in that regard. I was mindful that overkill is, well, overkill, and so limited my original works to one or two a week. If that's too much, I'm not sure what a bard's supposed to do. Thoughts?

That had almost the exact same RP angle. He/she was uncaballed, elven, but wouldn't kill anything living. Levelled to hero completely on undead. Wouldn't participate in any cabal warfare, not even to give sanc out to Fort who would be trying to retrieve from Empire/Scion, because there would likely be killing involved.

I can't remember the char's name though.

Depending on your role, etc., yes, I would consider saying no to people who ask you to send a note for them.

Speaking just for myself, you'd sent enough notes at one point (even if most of them were for other people) that after a while I was conditioned to move to the next note without reading once I saw it was from you. I'm not saying anything you did is wrong, just sharing my response to it.

Although I can't claim to have done it from level 1. I was playing a dwarf tribunal healer of Raisa and around 25-30th level decided that death is bad, nobody should die. I left Tribunal because I could no longer apprehend criminals. I also vowed to heal anyone that was dying no matter what align they were. Zharradam and Arolin were killing some Fire warrior Villager and I sanced and healed him. Afterwards I had to go to Raisa's shrine and explain why I saved an evil from dying. After much yelling at me, she allowed me to keep my empowerment, but on the condition that I could never kill any sentient life again, only undead and elementals. I made it to level 49 that way.

I've always said my Ray tat is awesome! No one believes me though because I'm froofy and it doesn't do anything that obvious, like pounce.

I'm glad you enjoyed the religion. I felt like we had a bit of a hard time forging a really solid connection, but it isn't something that's necessary to follow me. Like I said in my comments, there were highs and lows, but all around a good character.

As far as title goes...I feel bad now but I didn't even think about it! I should have given you one. Sorry about that!

Good luck on your next. I assume it will be murderful?

Hello Graatch.

I played Sluvira and I have to say, the best move I've made in CF in a long time was getting misdirected by you in the Vale when we were real young. I saw you there, I had trip Bezz ready, and you averted it, got away, sent me a tell, we started talking, and damn, you turned me onto Herald.

Ummm, that's kind of rambling, but I attended those earlier events just because it was fun being around you. I tried to elevate my RP a bit, but it may just not be in my cards to effectively RP.

I am curious of one thing. One time I sent you a tell and you replied back something like "Leave me alone", which seemed very uncharacteristic. I didn't press the issue, since I was assuming you were busy and would get back to me. Then I rage deleted.

You probably don't remember, so it's cool.

But seriously, awesome character and awesome player effort. How the hell did you manage stomaching 500 plus hours without breaking someone's face?!!

This post reminded me. What was that all about?

I tried to talk to you at one point and got a pretty harsh response.
Then, a few days later you sent an apologetic note out, blaming the
issue on alcohol.

If that was all IC, very nice job. My thought at the time was that,
if you think about it, a Herald bard would be just about the closest
thing to a Theran rock-star. It seemed to me that alcohol + telling
your fans to "bugger off" was some pretty awesome RP.

But as for Mac, you just hurt his feelings.

Now I faintly recall a letter as such, too.

Yeah, that's pretty awesome. I knew something was funny about the way he replied. Figured I'd find out later he was possessed or something crazy, but definitely knew there was something behind it!

This is proof of Daevryn's point. I detailed what happened specifically in the note, and what's more, it was the subject of the immediately prior painting I sent around. Evidently even people who read them don't really read them.

Bez was in the sands of sorrow looking for a particular exit to another area. He was with two others, one being an invoker. The invoker used an area spell at an inopportune moment, drawing a mob in, a human soldier. Bezzilan was also brought into the fight and he got the last blow on the human mob. That was the first time he'd ever killed a person and it sent him into a real tailspin. The times I said "Don't talk to me!" and abrupt things like that were during this period of his stay in the abyss of despair. I gave it a bit less than a week real time, and when I could find her, I had a talk with Rayihn (all ic) and he got over it, in a role based way.

So yeah, he was drunk even more than usual during that period, but it was really all part of his self loathing for having killed someone, that human mob.

I really hope you didn't take it personally, it was all role based. And I liked the Sluvira character a lot, was interesting and fun interacting. Don't sell yourself short! And thanks for the kind words, I appreciate them.

That whole bit with Sarux....and from reading the Immortal comments, just kinda proves you had OOC problems and "wouldn't let it go" just fit your mentality.

The scariest thing? You age died in just over two months - that means you played roughly 60 hours a week.

Get some help dude.

Great angle on a pacifist rp, fun to deal with, and as concerned about other people as I am! I think you asked me how I was doing more than I checked up on all my outlander! Good job, fun character, and wow did you age die that guy fast.

It was quite interesting, must have been really rough playing that "no killing people" role. Good work on you though.

Hey, thank YOU for playing along with it, that was great fun. I was an English teacher in Tokyo for a year after college and it brought me back to that time. I did it with one other giant a bit later, and while of course it's a bit frustrating, it's deliberately so, because of your giant roleplay, and that's cool.

As for the no killing part, like I said it was difficult in that I had some serious restrictions both in where I could go and what I could do, not only the no pk thing. But at the same time it also let me be really cheeky to people who I think otherwise would not have taken it. For example, Tarleton and Glurgick and Lirad and to some extent Frismund and of course Dupmasione were all friends of his, and he preached just as much to them as to anyone else. He never backed down, which I was kind of proud of doing, because I knew at any moment one of them might try to drop the hammer on me. Tinsalaop tried once or twice but of course I'm pretty slippery when I have to be.

Plus, the other benefit is that pretty much everyone trusted me. Which I deserved mind you, I never once stole something if I asked to "examine" it, and I never told anyone's secrets, etc. Once you have that trust, you become everyone's first choice for exploring - unless of course they will be kililng "people" in which case they get really frustrated at you.

Anyway, none of those people commented here so I suppose I wasn't nearly as impactful as I'd hoped, but I'm intentionally deluding myself into thinking they just missed the thread..

I get that it was your RP...and you were incredibly consistent with it, so that's cool...but man did that "friend" thing get old fast.

It was like that thing David Letterman used to do where he'd interview some guy off the street and keep calling him "chief" until he commented on it.

Edit: this comes off sounding like a criticism, but it isn't really intended to be.
