Yeah well I didn't notice you smashed my shield until you pointed it out, that was my favourite shield you bastard I had it for 100 years! Any way Trillox was well played, I remember you being head strong, when I was in another incarnation. I honestly had my doubts about you, they were not however carried forth in Mundanathnors life, and you seemed to do well for the law although you had a few hiccups. Well Played.

Well I've been putting this off for a few weeks. Trillox was a blast coming up, and unfortunately I played him constantly. Sadly by the time I hit Hero and Vindicator I needed a break from him. I'm a more of an explorer kind of player, and being lawful just wasn't me, so I started getting bored. I took a three week break and when I came back to him, I was slightly punished for not being around and was mad. Then I realized the immortal was right, and decided it wasn't right that I wasn't on with him enough.

Tribunal- Some of you have real potential to gain the Tribunal some needed respect. But a good portion were total newbies or incompetant. Astein - Thanks for our little chat about entropy, it straightened me out right away, and made it clear this was not Arbiter. Thanks for giving me the chance to be a Vindicator, sorry I couldn't play it through.
Gormarn - My kindred spirit in the Tribunal, at first I found you abit boring and stiff, but your little nuances really show the effort you put in to the RP. Our hunts were always interesting, sorry to leave you the soul vindicator.
Fellicitinia - I enjoyed your company, and after the whole Pohanad incident tried to be more of a protective figure. The one thing that fustrated the hell out of me was that you let every one and every thing into the Tribunal. I wish you got a mean streak and got abit more selective.
Kiapathrus - Always interesting, and thanks for all the gifts.
Mundrandthor(sp?)- Enjoyed our duels which turned into bloody massacres, I should have always worn my hammers. I'm still mad you won the tie breaker.

Scion- The closest thing I came to having comrades.
Daemelin - You were always a blast to travel with, and especially hunt with.
Lokilith - I enjoyed our little talks greatly. I debated taking you up on your offer so many times, in fact had a section of my role dedicated to you.

Maran- Kamba I respected your guts at the beggining, but you seemed to whine alot towards the end. Warborf wished we could have had a few more battles. Pohanad Trillox hated you with a passion, I only disliked you

Well I know I'm leaving a ton of people out, but I'm not going to write a small novel. Warriors are alot of fun to play, but a Non-rager at hero ranks have it abit rough. I'm used to mages so the most annoying aspect was not being able to collect the nicer things myself. I wished I got to use my cranial, impale, boneshatter combo more often. When I did use it I think I won every time. Well till next character, see ya in the fields...

I cannot disagree with this more. People are people. However much or however well we roleplay, we are not our characters. The people sitting at the keyboard have lives that takes us away from this game from time to time. School, work, vacations, and so on. Furthermore, from time to time we get bored with a character. So we stop playing them and play something else. I don't think this is a bad thing at all. You say you got bored? Took a three week break? I bet you came back to this char more interested in playing him, and this would have bettered his roleplay I'm sure. Merely playing to be there would have made the char boring for you and others in the game. You probably would have deleted. But coming back revitalized probably would have found the char re-sparked as well. Yet you are punished for it. We should not be punished for any of these things. I wish Imms and players alike had more compassion for people when they haven't been on CF. Imms, I don't think the threat of punishment should force players to play. Players, I don't think you should brow-beat leaders on the forums for not being around when you are. I like the idea of cabals having more than one inductor for this reason. Most do. And if they don't, then there are Imms who can induct. So my point is, the existence or non-existence of one char shouldn't ruin the ability for others to have fun, get into cabals, and reach their own goals.
Because I have never heard an Imm's philosophy on this, I would appreciate a response about this. At least it would let me know if I'm way off base here and keep me from ranting like this in the future. Or even better, maybe a discussion would present a solution that makes everyone happy.
Thanks!

I think this is the crux of your post is "So my point is, the existence or non-existence of one char shouldn't ruin the ability for others to have fun, get into cabals, and reach their own goals."

For the most part, you are correct, and this applies to mortals and immortals alike. Other threads (one with regard to Thror's playing time) is a good example of where the Imms and others have tried to explain that the enjoyment of a character should be in the playing of the character and success/failure should not exclusively be linked to whether the character earns a tattoo, cabal induction, or some other reward for great play.

The problem lies in the fact that people still want tattooes, cabal induction (from mortal or Immortal), to interact with great characters like Zorszaul, etc. and ultimately this can't be circumvented by saying "but you should only derive enjoyment from what you can accomplish solely by yourself." Many parts of the game can not be automated because they require judgment of a human being behind a character to evaluate another character in the game. For mortal leaders who induct -- and just about every Imm -- this responsibility incurs an obligation to the other players of the game.

A saying goes something like: "seniority has its privileges; seniority has its obligations." A mortal leader, for instance, has the privilege to shape their cabal like none other in that cabal. But with this additional power, comes a responsibility that others are relying on you and disappearing for weeks at a time is shirking that responsibility.

The purpose of punishment isn't to browbeat a player into playing 24/7, but rather to make clear that carry out their duties or get out of the way so someone else can do it. I won't say the Imms (as a general rule) will ever have "compassion" about players/characters who disappear for long periods of time, but we do understand it -- we've been there ourselves. The principal difference, however, is that there are over 30 Immortals who can help out behind the scenes when an Imm needs to take leave for awhile or has numerous other Imm duties to attend to. While this mutual support doesn't always cover things flawlessly, it does allow the nonautomated parts of the game to continue to move forward. Where a single character is the only means to accomplish a crucial aspect of the game such as cabal induction, then that character needs to understand both the IC and OOC roles within Thera that they play and act accordingly. Yes, can detract from the care-free and frivolent aspect of playing CF for a character that incurs this kind of responsibility, but that's just part of growing up, in Thera or RL.

As as an additional note for the curious. One of the biggest criteria we judge prospective Imms on is the player's ability to handle the responsibilities that come with being an Imm. We understand that not everyone has the time or is seeking the type of responsibility that comes with being an Imm and I'd say this is the most common reason why heroimms don't make it.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I am stll pretty pissed
at you. Seems all the good ones are deleting. We did have
some good times. Good Luck with any new characters. Oh
by the way I have gotten a bit more selective so if you
try for another tribunal you may not get in

I must say I hate to see you go Trillox. We travelled much coming up but as it often happens my other obligations kept me from travelling as often with you as we advanced. I had a high regard for Trillox in both the both the execution of skills and his roleplay. So many people look at a character to see what he has own but not his true description, and I noticed what defined you rather quickly. I always wanted to delve a little deeper into your role but as I have said we just didn't get to travel enough. I had also pondered playing a fire spear/mace before Karn came about and so following your advancement and reading your replies to Isildur's post have been rather helpful. Once again well played spider bite, and I'll see you in the fields.
