Our fundamental and, apparently, several years recurring disconnect seems to be that you believe that doing a quest entitles you to the rewards of having done that quest forever, whereas I don't. The purpose of that quest was never for a character with an average warcry to have it rated as "My warcry is as cool as Tjok's" forever. I'll probably end up doing something or other to that quest (not removing it) in the near future to avoid fueling this kind of sense of entitlement in the future.

I had a little bit of time blocked off yesterday to try to finish up the next set of edges, and I ended up spending it reading, investigating, and responding to angry warcry notes instead. That's not really fair to any of the players that don't demand that kind of attention, and with that in mind, in the future I'm going to try to either ignore this kind of thing outright or drop the hammer faster.

Warcries, by and large, are not a problem. Why should everyone lose the ability to have custom warcries, because of a small handfull of people who can't use it properly? I say this as someone who lost his ability to warcry once. My warcry, I thought and still think, was entirely appropriate for an orc. Thrak even gave me a thumbs up and a grin when he saw it. Someone else apparently saw it differenly and I lost it, and never got it back. It isn't something even all of the staff will ever agree on, but I think for the most part common sense prevails where custom warcries are concerned. I'll tell you I've never had any adjustment to any of my warcries since then, because I'm more careful about it.

I'd be happier with just smacking down people for inappropriate warcries thsn nerfing it for everyone over a few die hard morons.

The character who lost warcry went on and had a very productive life. The loss of my warcry, no matter if it was appropriate or not, hardly handicapped the character into unplayability.

It's one more stupid thing immortals have to patrol. Honestly...I'd rather have that time spent checking descriptions and rewarding people who write roles than deal with the percentage of people who make customisable warcry stupid.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

I think a gentle "Hey could you make your warcry something more inspirational/appropriate" from a staffer would go a lot further than just fiddling with #### and not saying anything. When my warcry was changed, much like this situation, I had no word from anyone about it. It took me about a week of praying and noting to finally get told what was what. I would have changed it if requested. I think instead of just smacking people down, maybe using it as a little chance for some immteraction (unless it's something clearly just designed to be inapproprate for the sake of being inappropriate) would be a better way to resolve things.

Maybe switch into that certain mob that gives that certain quest and have a quick chat, threatening to revoke their gifts if they aren't more inspiring or something. Things don't always need to be adversarial, and generally thats less productive.

Echoes have been added for when a warcry is modified.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

I think it's a big positive step in the right direction, and will help ease some tensions. Kudos to you (or whoever did it) and thank you for listening to feedback from players.

If it's supposed to pump you the screamer up, then what you want to scream is what you want to scream.

I #### you not. Once when assaulting across an objective I was doing the daffy duck laugh.

Hrm.... Come to think of it... I got my balls busted over that one....

Any way. I'd like a generic line. We've suffered long enough.

Maybe make them requestable like last names.

Right now, there are 25 characters with reduced warcries, 73 characters with improved warcries, and a big pile with normal warcries.

So, like experience points or other roleplay incentives, it's used much more often for reward than punishment. (Not that this character was punished-- the warcry at the default strength.)

As with so many of these cases (uninductions, unempowerment, XP loss for poor RP, etc.), had the character handled it IC (changing the warcry) instead of OOC (bitchy notes to immortal), it likely would have gone better for him.

Beat you to it. Quest is still there, reward is different.

Another suggestion:

If there are "fairly well agreed upon" guidelines w/ regard to things that don't belong in war cries, consider putting those in the warcry helpfile.

Apparently me being abrasive and hanging onto a grudge forever and a day and your (percieved though I don't see it) racism and trigger-whore accusations aren't enough to merit a song. Maybe a limerick or something at some point.

There once was a player named Pro,
Who at the mention of triggers would grow,
Very irate, like apes in a cage,
Who at school children their poo they do throw.

Yeah, I'm tired. But thats as good a limerick as I can do on short notice with no sleep. I'll have something better tomorrow.

There once was a player named Vlad,
Who hated that punk Balrahd.
The staff would say poo, and Bally would coo,
And ask them what color, egad.
