#50066, "Aarn"

Due to certain intolerable staffing situations, I'll no longer be playing CF. I appologize to my existing followers!

To those of you I know, I'll talk to you around.

To those of you I don't know, have a good life! I wont be following up on the forums.

I don't want to know what goes on behind the curtain. As long as the games keeps running the way it has for the past forever or so, I'm good. You guys air out your issues on the Imm forum. Ignorance is bliss, and I'm not here for no water torture.

Hey, everyone. If CF can make a diehard player out of my sorry ass, then it's a pretty damn good MUD.

The above is only somewhat serious. All kidding aside, good luck with life Aarn. Sometimes things aren't what they seem, but CF is a damn good MUD for the efforts of you immortals, and know that at least you guys have one huge fan in me.

I don't want to flame, so I will not answer or show my name. I'm not imm, not elite player, not very-mega-uber-super-smart player. I'm just a player that enjoying CF and want to continue to enjoy CF. So, listen me, my childs!

This whole thread sucks. It uncovers heaven brawls to us, mortals. I sincerely believe mortals should not know your dirty underwear. Valg, I'm talking to you too. Since when you turned into a flamer?

Dear imms. I suggest you to remove this whole thread, since it stinks.

Thank you all for your time.

PS: And yes, I've been quite serious.

I don't live in lala land and think everything is hunky dory with players and IMM's alike but this kind of discourse is not a good thing. This isn't opening players eyes to the hidden conspiricies or anything that might remotely clear the air this is just turning it a flame war for everyone involved. Come on guys lets all grow up a little.

The IMM staff and player base are both large groups of people there are bound to be disagreements and personality conflicts, people are bound to get tired of cf, people are bound to leave for one reason or another. I don't know why Aarn left, frankly I don't care, if he was tired of cf or frustrated to a point of unreconcilability then its a good thing he leaves not for cf but for himself.

Seems that if they open up someone think it's bad, if they don't someone else think it's bad. If valg get a little angry on the board it's fine, if he don't it's fine too, if aarn leaves it's maybe good maybe bad, but he left and that is how it is. The thing that matters from my perspective is that the few busybodies who feeds on war with the authorities are ignored. Let the imms be, praise them a little more, I like what they do, and I can leave if I don't.

Guess that means I'm going to have to pay attention to the Fortress again, doesn't it? Damnit man...do you know how much work I've put into this dead-beat father persona? Good lord.

Seriously chief, I will very much miss having you around in the Maran2 spot. As will the mortals, I'm sure. On my end it was nice to have a dedicated Maran imm that knew the religion almost as well as I did...and to know that the cabal wasn't starving for the militaristic interactions that you provided. Sorry to see you leave in anger, but I won't say it's a shock to me...as we talked about it already. I've got to say it was fun always logging in to a new set of questions about the tara'bal, azure fields, and the 'history' of the entire religion I created on a shoestring budget and a whim so many years ago...in fact, I'd kinda like if you kept nudging me with those questions so maybe one day I'll get off my lazy arse and write up some of the things we talked about. Anyway, I'll see you around, but know that Aarn IC and OOC will be missed from my perspective and others I'm sure.

Sorry about all of the bitter Imms and morts beginning to have it out on your thread. I guess childish retorts are the way to be rather than shutting up and being the better man.

Oh well, one of the good fun Imms who put the game of fun ahead of everything else is now gone.

As opposed to the anti-fun imms, I suppose.

From the logs and emails I have handy, two things stand out:

1) Aarn was spoken to about spending an inordinate percentage of his active time hounding one player. The gist of that was basically "We get it. Not a great character. But there's a lot of other things you could be doing that would be more useful than pounding on him more, and you're usually great at those, so do those." The overall drama attached to that strikes me as more than slightly overwrought, even considering other situations I had been keeping tabs on.

2) Aarn was also, for some reason, passing his negative opinion of this guy along to you. For a more boggling reason, you thought it would be a good plan to paste this trash-talking of an active character to your IRC knitting circle, until at some point it echoes around more and eventually someone contacts me with the details and says "This isn't good." This was in the "mulling over" phase when Aarn made the exit he did, which rendered the whole issue moot, but it wasn't promising.

Neither of those issues make things "fun" for the players. Take yourself down from your cross once in a while and consider the overall impact of what goes on.

You had a lot to say in your farewell about me driving the other imms too hard. Why the #### do you think I pushed for you to finish your 5-year-old area project or run a global-scale quest once in a while (etc.)? Because I don't have enough summer reading material? Or because new material for the game is fun for a lot of players, yet you sitting around and doing the minimum isn't? I'm sorry, but a staff of 30 Ordasens would have folded in 1995 or so. Someone has to get their hands dirty.

The game is fun for the players when all of that machinery is working. Class revamps and new abilities have fun results. Storyline quests have fun results. Keeping the game from crashing has a fun result even if the task is invisible. Publicity work that brings in fresh faces has a fun result. Imm-wrangling makes sure the game stays fun for everyone, and that the staff is working on stuff that matters. It's always been our core administrative philosophy that all of that is needed. One-on-one immteraction is crucial to our model, but it's not the only thing needed for "fun".

Since I find it bad taste to try to hijack a goodbye, I'm just going to say this and be done.

As you often like to say, your consparicy theory is wrong. Believe what others are wanting to tell you, since gods know it has to be the truth. But you did give a bit of advise, of which you yourself should take to heart and ponder.

Take yourself down from your cross once in a while and consider the overall impact of what goes on.

Not everything is about you and not everything is always what you think. However you seem to take a great offense about something that wasn't directed at you nor a flame in anyway.

I am however glad you are back and hopefully you will find your fun center again.

Every time I roll a character the first thing I think is "How can I make this an Aarn character?"

You were THE best RP immortal as far as I am concerned and I think my fun on CF peaked with Gumbldink and everything since has been a lousy effort at getting that spark back.

Your deletion seals my fate with this game. I am so very sorry to see you go because it is MORE not less immortals like you that this game needs.

I hope in time you do return in this incarnation. I for one appreciate you and the staff effort.

Till then, take it easy man and good luck in whatever you decide to persue for now.

You sure earned a good long rest from CF. My hero-Imm experience seemed to suck the CF life out of me but it certainly wasn't because of you. You were always endlessly patient and helpful and encouraging and kind and funny and witty and.....you get the picture.

We had a lot of fun times, and being your follower was probably the best times I had with CF.

Hmm...I'm half speechless....this is a true shock. You'll be missed and I'll be sure to bug you on MSN someday again. I do believe CF is a phase in our lives, and maybe it's time you moved on. I've successfully moved on to a point where CF doesn't take up a large junk of my social life and it's definitely more healthy for me.

I hope things go well for you and that your new job thingy is a positive thing.

All the best, and let me know if you're ever in Montreal. The drinks are on me Sir.

Aarn,

I've known you since my first titled char, Davrin, and you as the storm giant leader of battle. I came later to know your later and other carnations...its not my place to say who you were, but you know I know, and I've respected them all.

You were my mentor as a hero-imm, and I'm sorry i didn't make you look better...you'd be surprised as to how close I came with that first upload.

While I obviously never talked to you outside cf, I always enjoyed when we did interact, and apreciated the advice and insight you provided me.

Good luck with whatever's in your way rightnow, and If its just CF drama, do what I did and say '#### em, and do what you want.

I've loved your style ever since you stripped one of my paladins of a virtue because he was praying to his god--roleplaying with an imm, even--and didn't interrupt it to defend the Fortress. You gave my character a different virtue after he died twice trying to retrieve, and I wasn't sure if I should run you over with my car or drive you to whereever you were going.

You'll be missed.

Poor goodies. I guess they have Innis, Corlaan, and ...?

Although you've long held the staff record for quitting forever (again) in a huff, I've been genuinely disappointed to see it happen each time.

You're good for the game when you're not burned out on it. It is truly a shame that it never lasts for long.

You (and a couple others who complain) have almost caused me

Not what happened here, and I don't want to hijack the thread,
but sometimes the complaints due suck all life out of the game
for some of us.

Keep in mind that Qaledus is one of the nicer people on staff. Imagine what jerks like me think.

At some point, your connection to to a group of people just generates negative energy in both directions, it's probably best for all parties if you walk away.

Your presence generates positive energy in my direction. I hope you won't walk away for good.

It's worrisome that Aarn, Ordasen and possibly you seem to be disenchanted, for vague but possibly related reasons. The last time something like this went down (I think it was Cyradia, Grumorum, and possibly Thror?) I was reassured that the sky is not falling and that it was a more or less random statistical fluke.

This time it seems a bit different, and I'm beginning to wonder if it's going to end up changing the CF landscape. Is it personality conflict? Misconduct? Differing vision? I have no idea, and not knowing makes me worry about the future of the game I've enjoyed on and off for 8 years or so.

I understand that there's a certain tendency for people to take a mile when given an inch of insight on the forums, and that airing of dirty laundry won't help "the situation" to the extent there is a situation. I also know that I don't have any right or expectation to be filled in on what happens behind the scenes. Still, I really wish I had some inkling of what's going on.

From what I recall, Thror had a son and his time dwindled to nothing, prompting his deleting. Cyradia had a few problems with other staffers, left, came back, then left again. Grumorum ended up losing what time he had to play as well.

Ordasen and Aarn had gripes, some of which I agree with, most of which I don't. Everyone doesn't always see eye to eye in immland. That's never been hidden, and never will be.

..say that the Imms have ruined CF and claim that it was better in the old days when they were having fun. Personally, I believe that it wouldn't make any difference if CF would be the same old they praise in their posts. You can only be interested in one game for so long. Old players will leave at some point and what the game can do is to find a noob to replace the loss in numbers.

Oh come on, very very few of us actually know what is going on, but to those who do its rather disgusting.

I guarantee that you have no ####ing idea what's going on. At best, you have an ass-big pile of lies, misconceptions, and crackpot theories wrapped around one or two actual facts.

I'm not inclined to lay it all out for you, but even if I were, it involves active mortal characters. Have a Coke, a smile, and shut the #### up.

You want to hear what I know, tell me and I will email you.

Yes, there are a few active mortal characters around the center of it, but it goes a bit deeper than that and involved a slight amount of favoritsm which we all know can be a bad thing.

And you sir, can have a pepsi, a smile, and shut the #### up

Good day

Because I think I understand the situation from a couple people's perspectives, and since you know everything I'd like to get in on that.

If your being a little #### and throwing some sarcasm at me for one reason or another, you can shove it up your ass.

Now if your being serious and you truly would like to know, then I apologies for what I said here and I will gladly email you.

I know you aren't going to respond, but buddy, if my infrequent and rather mediocre complaints are driving you off the mud, color me flabbergasted. I think the last time I actually posted anything of substance here was over a year ago.

I really liked you Aarn. Ive played empowerment chars of yours. You are a players Immortal and always take the time to do little things for your followers. The surly dwarf popping in from time to time was awesome. As an enemy you were amazing as well.

I dont know what the hell goes on behind the scenes with you guys, but it doesnt sound very fun from the goodbye posts that have been popping up the past few years. After all the work you have put in to make the game fun for us mortals, Im sorry that you are leaving like this.

Hit me up with a mailing address or postal box number and Ill courier you a case of beer. Canadian of course. I expect you to respond so get on it.

Take er easy.

Damnit.

I know you have your reasons, and all...

but did you have to do this right after I write up a super intricate and fun dwarf shaman role for your religion that was going to be completely different than Odrirg was.

*sigh*

it was going to be my attempt at getting people to say, after the character died, "That was Odrirg? Wow, I never saw that coming".

but no.....

You have to go and leave...

CAUSE IT'S ALL ABOUT ME...

heh.

jk about it being all about me, sorry to see you go though, I think I had a paladin that was one of your first empowerees, and I've always wanted to get back into it and work more with that forge and stuff, I just never got around to it.

On a semi facetious note, I hope you find something at least marginally productive to take up the time in your life leaving cf will open up. Good luck, and all that.

Don't do this to me - I'm having a mid-Cf character crisis and I was going to make my next big wiz a follower of you. Almost all because I know you loved Ritur and you would have screamed yourself silly over this clever dwarfs quirky dwarfiness. *sigh* The things that'll never be. *shoves the role into the 'used pile'*

Thanks for all the good times, all the same. Its sad we don't have more dwarven gods with the edge you gave the race. I can't say you replaced Thror as THE dwarf. It'd like trying to make another awesome movie like Groundhog day by just having Bill Murray (*cough*lostintranslation*cough*). But you were my Bill Murray of the Gods - I'd buy any movie with you in it if Uwe Boll directed it. Still can't believe you're leaving us.

Incidently, I do have Lost in Translation and watch it but I have to balance it out by watching Coffee and Cigarettes afterwards. The movie lacked something I couldn't put my finger on. Likely because my hands are mostly occupied molesting Scarlet on TV.

Yhorian.
