#26711, "I'm not going to wait for my Battefield post so here it..."

This character was the ultimate failure for me.

I'm now in the double digits on heroed characters and every last one of them have been either Maran or Acolyte.

The state of the Hero ranks is completely pathetic. Fair fights are like a needle in a haystack. Imperials still suck. Black shroud is way powerful. Paladins not being able to at least sanc a cabal guardian is way bad news. It sucks when you and another hero raid only to have your healing outdamaged by a pair of level 25 warriors for the retrieval.

My title was completely warranted. My attempted humor at an offshot comment was way outta line and I deserved every bit of it. Thank god I lost it at the end when I was made a maran. .

I didn't accomplish a single goal with this character. I take that back. I accomplished one at the very end. Ten Minutes before I deleted.

I am burned out bad. I had absolutely no fun with this character with minor exceptions.

I was empowered pretty quick with a full shot at like level 5 or something. I put my note into the fortress at level 33 or so with 50 hours on the character. I spent the next 70 hours getting denied an interview from the fortress leaders(which I rarely ever saw). I stuck it out at level 47 for a while simply because I didn't want to be one of those guys that gets inducted into a cabal as a hero. I finally went and prayed several times to vynmylak. He came down and told me to return in three days time if I had not heard from a leader. Three days later I am back with no word from either vyn or a leader. Day 4 I get tired of waiting and rank to hero. Day 5 no word. Day 6 no word. Finally on day 7 I think he summoned me to him and inducted me. Yay!

So now I'm fortress finally, I was already bitter from the stupid wait and frustrated by the apparent quality of both fortress heroes and other heroes(I have zero to no patience).

I kill some, I get killed. I kill some more. I preach the word. I kill some more. I do maranly stuff. I argue with people. I get frustrated. I almost delete(160 hours). I fight off deletion. I kill some more. Die stupidly to a falling sanc/flurry combo on a raid. Get even more frustrated. Kill some more. Totally swear off the fortress(200 hours). Ask for uninduction. Get made to feel like if I leave I am letting everyone down, etc. Get denied uninduction. Sit at the Inn. Brood over nothing. Get even more frustrated and angry. Argue with some folks. Tell others to leave me the hell alone. Feel worthless. Pray to Vyn. Pray to vyn. Sit at the Inn. Pray to vyn. Explore some areas. No evils to kill. Another night of no evils to kills. Where are the ####ing badguys? Finally get my prayers answered. Ask why I have not been made full maran yet(217 hours or so). No reason given, promotion given instead. Yay! During my final interview with vynmylak, I am told that the only person I really wanted to interact with anymore was dead(deleted maybe?) I dunno. Whatever. I get made full maran, sent by vyn back to fortress, and delete.

So my few noteworthy goodbyes.

Vynmylak - Thanks for the Induction. Thanks for the Empowerment. Thanks for the Virtues. Thanks for everything. I wish I had seen you more, but from posts on the forums and other stuff, I have a feeling that the brunt of my frustration was due to bad timing. I've played to much of the same thing, its starting to wear thin. Always quality with the interactions. Enjoyed it all.

Minya - I don't know what to say here. Getting rejected was a huge blow to this character. Not sure if you noticed but after that one interaction I didn't log on much for a couple days(fighting deletion). Always colorful, always interesting, I had hoped to be the same for you, but instead I felt like I had been kicked in the gut. . Its not a bad thing, I just get way into my characters sometimes I think, and to be told that crap by vahl, and then reinforced by you was just bad news for me. I think you have/had? a hell of a character. You are most definitly one of the only reasons I stuck around as long as I did. Figured if I had started something new it would have just been shrugged off by you as another lowbie and I didn't want that. I really wish things had been different, but you can't win them all. Besides, I was cursed with that average elf thing. I'm not good at spouting poetry, and I play a lot with a temper, and edgy moods. That was probably a big part of not choosing ol' lathan, but I understand. Its all good. Good luck with whatever you do.

Vahl - That first encounter near the mount pretty much set the tone for our entire relationship I think. I got this picture of two elves competing fiercly in everything they did. But really it was mostly me getting angry and trying to undermine you. Jealous? Yep. Hurt? Yep. Angry? Most Definitly. You could probably tell all of that from IC too. I started to spiral downwards after that heartbreaking interaction thing, and just went from there. I enjoyed what we had when it was good, or when it was bad. It made things interesting but damn man, you gotta stop being so cold hearted .

Nhiala - You are a solid character, enjoyed our limited interaction. Well done on making Captain. I can't think of anyone more suited for the position. Good luck with everything.

Vlaugnuir - Haha, I really like our interactions, especially near the fort. Always like the elf/dwarf combo's. It makes it especially fun. Good luck with everything, you're a pretty damned stout mofugga. Thats for sure.

Lochzan - Felt bad for you OOC, you know where I stood and I gave you ample chance for redemption IC. I actually laid off coming to galadon on several log ins because it wasn't really a fight between us. Being a heroed unempowered paladin must suck. Being one thats evil to boot against wrath must suck even worse. Kudos for sticking to the role.

Most of my best interactions came from villagers and tribunals. I liked you all.

Now for the bad

Gradaelus/Tulvaluthian - I dislike characters like this. Aimless. Pointless, and like nhiala said in another thread. We're steamrolling imperials and the vanquisher and you wanna split the loot while others do all the work. Pathetic. Tulv, I told you not to talk to me because I honestly didn't want anything to do with you. Still don't. Probably never will.

Drudental - Drudental tells you "how about i cum in yur mouth"
Drudental tells you "bitch"
At least capitalize when you throw #### like this out.

Imperials in general - With a few exceptions, I think the whole lot of you are pretty sad really. Rarely walking without at least three. Rarely fighting without at least a two on one. Cabal wars are sad right now, and I blame the majority of that on the fact that most of you don't have any balls. Its easy to talk smack when you have a shrouding healer around, and its easy to mass login during that time. The only one I saw do anything on his own was the war master. That guy was pretty bad ass, and he handed me my ass for the most part at my inner guardian alone. Well done Grott. Everyone else sucked ass.

Delromsin - I hate people that change RP during mid character to suit their needs. You went from a goodie hugging SOB to an outlander serious type in like .02 seconds. Get a life, dude. Seriously. Pick something and stick with it.

Various gnome shapeshifters - You're all powergamers. That much is apparent. I hate powergamers unless they can toss in some semblence of a role. None of you could. Lemath I don't include you in this. I enjoyed our interactions.

I'm already tired of posting this so I am going to stop with a small conclusion.

The quality of characters in this game has gone to hell. I can't believe the number of people at upper levels who don't know how to talk without using that whole elite speak things.

Soandso tells you "What 4?"
Gnomeguy says "k"
etc.

A lot of the above lead to me being frustrated and angry pretty much for the entirity of this character. I'm sure I'm just an ass. So #### me. Sorry if I offended anyone, but not really.

I am going to take this time to go back to when I first started playing. I'm going to slowly slip back into the CF pool of anonymity, and just play for myself. I'm done with goodies for now. I'm taking a break from this game(could be 1 day, could be a year) who knows. I'll be back when I am inspired to play something again, and I'm sure I will try my first real evil, or maybe a neutral. Something other than goodie.

I love you all,
Lathan

Goodie hugging sob, that ####in hilarious, considering I used paladins for sanctuary... And as for the shield, I gave it to you. And whats wrong with being an Outlander? There not evil and I never once broke roll before I got all depressed and ####. So STFU, cause you have no idea what your talking about.

IC, the first time we met you pissed me off. I was talking to Nhiala about my views on the war against evil. I wasn't even trying to get into the Fortress or anything, since I wasn't planning on joining. You piped in, rather strongly, with your opinion on the matter (uninvited). That irritated my character to no end, but I thought it was great, because you were the first elf he'd ever met that was just as abrasive and blunt as he was.

Then after I DID join the Fortress, there was no more mention of it, and you acted like it had never happened, I assumed from a "Well you're one of us now, so I guess you're ok" mentality, which I also liked, because it's something Cele can relate to.

I was honstly unhappy with your deletion. I kept hoping you'd change your mind and come to me to get your eq back.

218 hours? I don't really think that is long enough to complain as much as you did...but hey, I have been in the same spot with other characters and I know how bad it sucks.

Anyway...Lathan, Lathan, Lathan...what can I say about him? My worst suspicions were true, OOC frustration was creeping into the realm of IC. I had hoped there was some intricate story about how your Elf became so manic depressive. Which leads me to your comment about Vahletharien being cold. I guess we just see Elves in different ways. To me an Elf is supposed to be calm, calculated, cool, intelligent, above many 'human' emotions and outbursts. (This is not to say that I always play a perfect elf ) Lathan was the total opposite. I can't imagine an Elf running around "GOD DAMN I CAN'T BELIEVE HE GOT AWAY!!" or "She doesn't love meeeeee, agghhhhhh"
Hah, yeah I know Lathan wasn't precisely like that, but I think you get my point about him being wishy-washy emotionally, which isn't a typical elven trait.

*I really enjoyed interacting with Lathan. It was a difficult task for me to keep my OOC desires away from my character Vahletharien as well. For example, OOC (me personally) wanted to boot your punk ass from the Fortress soooo badly when you asked me to. I almost did after you returned from your first? deletion. But IC (from the eyes of Vahletharien) you were misguided, needing mercy and time to sort things out.

But wow we really did have some good IC interactions. I enjoyed every minute of it man. I do however, think it's crappy to get MARAN and then delete right afterward

All in all, I think Lathan was an interesting character...who would have been much better as a chaotic Human rather than an Elf. My only real advice is to keep OOC stuff out of your character completely. It's a rough show, I know.

The two towers?

If you did, you know that scene right before that major battle where legolas is expressing his despair to aragorn? I took that snippet and made a character off of that type of elven interaction. Sure I agree that elves are cool, calculating, etc. I just needed something that I could play easier as I tend to get fired up easily, etc.

Maybe that explains where this guy comes from a little better. I just need a break. You should have given into that urge and dropped me like a bad habit. God only knows I deserved it, but thats what I was going for.

It's a bit too general to say Paladins ALWAYS jump the evil killing gun and will NEVER take the time to talk about it.

The Code requires paladins to be fair of manner and speech, and to set an example for others. I think this reasonably implies that they should speak with you about their faith or actions if they are able. At the same time, they are unwavering in their dedication and they shouldn't have to respond to many of the daily taunts and OOC rants they face. As a result, you'll see two major strands of Paladin.

There's the Maran breed which, like you said, will strike first and ask questions later. Most players seem to prefer this type of Paladin, especially in light of all the crap you have to face trying to be a paladin. No one cares about the troubles they go through, except the relative few players who have played Paladins. They have almost every right to return this same love ten times over - and they often will. In most cases, if you talk to them, they will talk to you as well. However, if they're doing their job right, they won't have a lot of time to talk, because they're usually fighting.

Then, there's the Acolyte breed which is nearly opposite - almost to a fault. They'll be happy to discuss the philosophy of good and evil while you're spamming bash on them. They face the same nonsense the Marans do, yet their role requires them to turn the other cheek and show mercy. Very few players have the patience to play this kind of Paladin. You have to be able to eat #### and say with a straight face, "Mmm, thank you, your #### tastes great. Thanks for bashing me into the ground with your paper-thin fire warrior and his buddies, I welcome and embrace death in the service of Light. You're lucky you got me on a good day. In fact, I never have bad days, because every day in the Acolytes is just spectacular! Next time you bring your buddies, I'll make sure I have some beer on my corpse so you can all celebrate. Don't donate all my EQ at once now, ya hear?"

While most Paladins fall somewhere in between, you'll usually see them leaning toward the Maran style. I understand perfectly why. You can only take so much BS before you feel like someone has to pay. It might as well be the evils.

Right or wrong? It's up to you to interpret. The Paladin class is very diverse in both mechanics and RP - and how you deal with the above difficulties is part of the challenge. Paladins are much deeper than the wrathing death machines people make them out to be.

Try rolling a Paladin and getting empowered, if you haven't already. I think you'll understand what I'm talking about all too well.

Well I suppose I should tie this back to the original thread - Lathan. I've seen him get demoted, penalized, and face multiple shrouded Imperials alone. That scenario would frustrate almost anyone, and he concedes that his anger seeped into the character. Welcome to the life of a twice-virtued Maran Paladin. Twice the power, twice the ####. Or was it once demoted, twice virtued? #### I don't know ... Why don't I just wrath your ass and ask questions later.

It was mostly pointed at Lathan
As I experienced with paladins and virtues and the like I know what its like to sit around with two virtues at hero, and no one to kill but a evil villager *bleh*
But I atleast tried to talk to them a few times *pointless normally* but 90% of the paladins I run across just wrath/wrath etc, even when a character makes a point to ignore the paladin.

I really debated even responding to this. People who feel the game owes them something often act like you are here. People who think they know it all often criticize other characters before they even bother to get to know them.

"Gradaelus/Tulvaluthian - I dislike characters like this."

You disliked me...You sure didn't when we were ranking to hero.

"Aimless. Pointless, and like nhiala said in another thread. We're steamrolling imperials and the vanquisher and you wanna split the loot while others do all the work."

We had a seven man gang. There was one Imperial we hadn't killed, I was half-dressed, and yes, I was talking about loot in between spamming engulf on the outer. Others doing all the work? That's laughable. I've killed that vanquisher more times then you've logged in. You weren't complaining about gear when I gave Nhiala the sapphire bracelet from Nizarrsh to give to you. In fact you didn't even thank me. My character is far from aimless. Just because I don't play him like you want me to does not mean he is "pathetic". Why not say something IC about it? Why not say "Hey, stop being greedy, we have a job to do?". Instead you put your head in the sand and cried about how bad you have it.

"Pathetic. Tulv, I told you not to talk to me because I honestly didn't want anything to do with you. Still don't. Probably never will.""

You sure didn't mind when I was helping you in the mid-ranks. Your contempt for me was evident. The fact I was in your cabal and you are supposed to be a paladin and a bastion of virtue just shows you let OOC stuff affect you IC. You got a poor title as a paladin and you still think you were the shining example of RP we all need to follow? Please. I'm sick and tired of goodies pretending gear doesn't matter then the moment there are no evils to kill it's all "Let's go to XXX area and get XXX". What I saw from Lathan was an asshole in paladin disguise. You cried like a little bitch because the gods didn't fall all over themselves to make your character king $hit. Deal with it. Yes a lot of evils gang, you know what, the "pathetic" flag you put on them for ganging is the same $hit you did with me when I was "arguing about gear". So I guess your pathetic too. Guess what, everyone gangs. A lot was made about me saying Yanacek ganged me, but that wasn't what I was trying to say. I was trying to say in his instance, decked to the ####, he didn't need 6 people to gang Aurinius. I gang, you ganged, everyone in CF with a very few exceptions has and will gang. Let's not pretend it's just evil or good. Let's also not pretend you know what the fcuk you're talking about when it comes to my character. I saw no RP from Lathan, no PK outside your kill of Drudental you posted on Dio's. All I saw was a pissed off kid mad he wasn't the captain of the team, so he grabbed his ball and went home. I think you do need to chill. You obviously were letting how you felt OOC affect you IC. You need to ignore it. If I didn't, I'd have geysered your ass for your lack of RP, despite us being caballed together. But I held to RP and tried to find out why you were such an ass. You didn't respond. I gave up and accepted that you were a pissy little crybaby. Such is life.

Where to begin? If you think that I didn't mind your presence during the mid ranks, you're wrong. Considering the mid ranks for us was mid 40's+. Before that I had no freaking clue of who you were because you were *ALWAYS* above me in level. I don't know about you, but I play this game to have "fun". Fun doesn't include spending 218 hours not acheiving what you set out to acheive. Fun doesn't include seventy hours of being denied by fort leadership for an interview or just spending most of that time looking for them.

I never got a bracelet from that raid, I didn't need it anyway. I rarely loot kills and from the looks of it, thats all you and gradaelus worried about the majority of the time. You'll also notice I didn't ask you to come kill anything with me as I could handle most anything I wanted by myself. Its easy to come here and post a flame out of spite for something that was posted against you. The simple fact of the matter comes down to the fact that you do suck. You didn't see a damn thing from me because thats the way I chose to play it in regards to your lame ass.

As far as ganging goes? The only time I dealt with outnumbered people was during retrievals(exception being perhaps once, twice at the most). So that argument and observation is again false yet again. I'm not overly worried about ganging, I just find it ironic that people in this game spam boards with "#### the ganger" posts and then turn around and do it themselves. Anyone who speaks in abbreviation usually gets no play outta me. Sorry but you fall into that realm of elite speak I spoke of earlier. Pretty sad when you can't type out full words, and don't worry, I know exactly what I'm talking about with your character. Hollow and Pointless. That sums it up pretty nicely.

Love,
Lathan

"Fun doesn't include spending 218 hours not acheiving what you set out to acheive. Fun doesn't include seventy hours of being denied by fort leadership for an interview or just spending most of that time looking for them. "

Well maybe if you weren't such a pompous ass IC, then you might have accomplished these things. Judging from your battlefield responses from your supposed "allies" I can see I wasn't the only one who thought your RP was weak if even existent.

"I never got a bracelet from that raid, I didn't need it anyway. I rarely loot kills and from the looks of it, thats all you and gradaelus worried about the majority of the time."

Maybe thats because Gradaelus and I were actually out trying to kill people while you were in the Inn talking about your paintings with Heralds. Sorry if I don't want to fight Imperials with my base 450hp and no wands. Some of us actually like fighting, rather then talking about it.

"The simple fact of the matter comes down to the fact that you do suck. "

I suck? Thats laughable. You, not I, not Gradaelus, were the one with a bad title. Perhaps you ought to remember the old adage of people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

"Anyone who speaks in abbreviation usually gets no play outta me. Sorry but you fall into that realm of elite speak I spoke of earlier. Pretty sad when you can't type out full words, and don't worry, I know exactly what I'm talking about with your character."

Yeah you're right I always talk like "you sux0rz". What you need to do is stop blaming everyone but yourself for your shortcomings, and realize that you aren't god's gift to CF. In short, your RP sucked, you got titled accordingly, as you said. Your character wasn't a success because you were an ass IC, and what appears to be OOC as well.

"Hollow and Pointless."

By your own words your character was a failure, but I was the one who was hollow and pointless. People like you make me sick. I tried to keep my invective to a minimum in your last post because I knew this would degenerate into a "you suck, no you suck." thread. Do me a favor, why don't you make an evil and tell me how bad I suck. Actually do us all a favor and just shut the fcuk up. No one wants to hear your sob story and your finger pointing about how everyone else sucks but you are so great. Get over yourself. In conclusion, your character sucked, your RP sucked, your PK sucked, and you got the recognition you deserved, like a certain Imperial Blade. Go try playing Heralds, you inn-sitting wank. You've had 10 hero goodies/fort's and you still can't get it right...but I am the pathetic one. You're a joke just like Lathan was.

I'll just reply to this then I'm done. My character sucked by my own admission because I made him that way. My RP did not suck when I tried to RP. I was pretty successful in the PK department too, but you wouldn't know that because I didn't hang out with you after getting a bad impression of you. I've had 10 goodies heroes all fortress, don't mind that three of these were leader characters, four had tattoos, three full maran, one hero imm, etc. so blow me on "You still can't get it right" crap. You have no idea what you're talking about. I think the "real" conclusion here is that you were a tool and not worth any real effort in the RP/PK side of this game to me. There is no sob story. I admitted to being frustrated and angry, repitition is a killer and it finally got to me. As for the title? Uncouth is a bad title? I like to think of myself as rugged and unpolished. Rough around the edges, etc. I think it fit well with the character. Oh, and one more thing, #### you.

"My character sucked by my own admission because I made him that way."

Well good job then, at uh...sucking, yeah.

"I was pretty successful in the PK department too, but you wouldn't know that because I didn't hang out with you after getting a bad impression of you."

I wouldn't know that because I never once heard you say over CB or anywhere else "insert-any evil name" is dead. As a Maran hopeful I would think you would be out trying to kill evils, not inn-sitting like you did.

"I've had 10 goodies heroes all fortress, don't mind that three of these were leader characters, four had tattoos, three full maran, one hero imm, etc."

I really don't give a #### if your last character was Zorszaul. I judge characters one at a time. Lathan was an ass IC, and from the moment you and Vahletharien were being obstinate on the Mountain, I never saw anything even remotely paladin-like about Lathan. You had nothing but contempt for everyone but yourself IC and you are still showcasing that feeling here, OOCly, as well. Maybe we have differing opinions on paladins, but thats a whole other argument.

"I think the "real" conclusion here is that you were a tool and not worth any real effort in the RP/PK side of this game to me."

See thats the is the real conclusion here indeed. You didn't like me. Sadly I guess I didn't fulfill my character goal of making you like me. Guess what, like me and every other mortal, your opinion of other peoples characters means ####. Thats not what I play for. I don't play to make OOC friends, or to make other mortals or for that matter immortals like my character. I don't play to get a bunch of nice glowing comments about how cool I was when I delete. I play because I enjoy CF and the challenges it has. I enjoy getting into character and the fantasy it allows. If people enjoy my character and I can give others more enjoyment then that's so much the better. The minute you worry about getting the credit you feel you deserve, it becomes more then a game, and it becomes a contest to find fame. Perhaps thats another reason Lathan wasn't your best work, because you were so concerned with getting the credit you had with past chars. I don't know. I only know that I didn't like you IC, althought I believed it had some RP background other then the fact I'm not a hypocrite about gear. Your comments OOC are making me believe that you're a bitter, angry man, and if that's true, you need to remember why you play CF. In any case, chill out, stop believing the game and its players and immortals owe you something, and remember we all play here for fun, not ####-waving.

I ever inn sat was when there was absolutely nothing to hunt or anything to get. Sorry if my posts came across bad. I'm still angry at myself mostly for this character. I'm sure it shows. I've deleted my newest creation and I am taking a break. Maybe then it will be better. I don't think anyone owes me anything, but I'm not going to argue anymore.

Seriously.

I think I can understand part of your frustration about hours spent, how you'd like to play this game casually BUT it demands so much time when sometimes it seemed like it didn't.

For instance, I had a paladin that took 5 hours to get empowered once. The next one took about 15, but I felt like I had screwed up somehow because it "took so long".

Yeah right, 15 hours to too long, jeese. Expectations can kill you.

My advice? Play a character that has a sphere that no immortal oversees. Don't try for a tat, don't try for empowerment, just play.

But you seemed very bitter every time I... heard you. Every thing you said seemed to be said .. as if.. don't know .. you just spat the words, nothing of the 'comradeship' that you hear amongst the Fortress people.. now reading all this, I understand.. but dude, this is just a game. I don't know if you know, but you're not the only one that encounters difficulties. I was made Maran at something around 270-280 hours, even though I thought of myself I was doing pretty well. I got some virtues a tad earlier - something like 250 hours - even though I - again - thought of myself that I earned them earlier.
Although I feel your pain and I was in the same situation, I think you should keep in mind that this is still a game, and that the people who run it, are not robots capable of staying awake 24/7. Although I liked your loner-style, you were too cold and so I didn't put too much effort in trying to interact with you. Apparently you didn't really like me either, since you, too, didn't say anything to me, except hello and goodbye over cb. That's about it. Anyways, do something different man. Repetition will kill you, and I know what I'm talking about.

I enjoyed the few times we did travel/raid(whatever). That 280 hours is what sticks out to me in this post. While I can see waiting a while to make sure you have a quality character, etc. If you averaged only 3 hours a day on CF to play, that would have taken you over 90 days to become a full maran. That to me is too long. I have set hours I play this game because of other RL concerns, and to spend that much time on something and be made to wait is irritating to me, I guess. I've had full fledged maran in the past thats taken roughly 100 hours to be inducted and promoted. I guess thats what I'm used to. Anyways, I did let too much of the OOC #### come into my play, and I admit that. I sucked it up and now I'm more or less expressing my frustration with the fact that I let it happen. Good luck.

I'm *really* surprised that you stuck it out as long as you did. I remember the first few interactions we had and I gotta say, you really impressed me with the paintings, as well as the story of your (at that time) recent heartbreak and the lessons you learned from it, etc. I knew that we would have a strong friendship and somewhat sensed the direction you were going, but chose to ignore it. I'm sorry for that. I know that things didn't turn out the way you wanted (expected?) them to. It had nothing to do with your edginess or lack of poetic inspiration, goofy. I liked the temper, it gave me ample opportunity to shed the cold outer shell and lay the smack down on your ass. It's fun to let loose every once in a while.

One other thing I wanted to say.. Before I deleted, I gave all my stuff to the Fortress and I realized that probably 99% of it came from Lathan at one point or another, including the tonsa gold. Dude, you made me lazy. I didn't have to gather one thing in the entire history of this character, save maybe a saddle bag and water jug.

Good luck on your evil. I get the impression that you will be really successful with a cold, malicious killer. Plus! You'll roleplay with your victims and that is always (okay, not always, most of the time I just want them to shut up after they kill me) fun.

I wouldn't consider a virtue paladin that gets into Maran as an "ultimate failure." During the past month or more, it has been extremely hard to get empowered, much less get inducted into the Fortress. I dare say that in the past it was easier, because of higher IMM presence. Even now, there are very few Marans or Acolytes -- actually, one less now...

I do not think you are giving yourself enough credit, and you are perhaps expecting too much of others. You'll always have to deal with people you do not necessarily like. Focus on your own character and be the master of your own destiny.

I knew you were a bit jaded from our limited interactions, and I guess your post confirms that feeling. In truth, your character was recognized well beyond the norm. It is very hard to get any kind of IMMteraction these days, so you might be underestimating what you did with the character.

In the end, though, you should take a break.

Well, thanks for the stuff. It was put to good use.

When those expectations are met, I get in this ####ed up mindset that I'm just sucking the place up. Thanks for posting, I should have mentioned you earlier. I enjoyed our limited interactions as well. Its just frustrating(at least to me) when I don't get or do well what I set out to get or do in the first place. Good luck.

I was hoping for more interaction with you, I think we had a special relationship growing there. You healing all the fortress mages I was trying to kill, me cursing through my beard, then us sitting there talking about life, love, and booz. From what I saw you did a good job. Oh, and maybe it IS time to get away from playing goodies. That might juice things up for you.

You need to chill. Maybe this is what you were going for role-wise, but Lathan came off as being a little petulant and whiney. That said, I liked you were always super gung-ho about terminating evil. It was great that you were so motivated, but at times it might have approached recklessness. Just my $0.02.

I'm now in the double digits on heroed characters and every
last one of them have been either Maran or Acolyte.

Play an evil sometime. It's fun.

The state of the Hero ranks is completely pathetic. Fair
fights are like a needle in a haystack. Imperials still suck.

Sure, some suck. Some don't. There are more than a few Imperials I've fought alone. One in particular beat the living snot out of me recently, so more power to him.

Black shroud is way powerful.

You ain't just whistlin' dixie. Allow me to add: Centurions.

Paladins not being able to at least sanc a cabal guardian
is way bad news. It sucks when you and another hero raid only
to have your healing outdamaged by a pair of level 25 warriors
for the retrieval.

This doesn't bother me that much. I can understand how a cabal where half the members can sanc could be irritating to retrieve from. Basically this change makes healers worth something again when it comes to cabal defense.

I was empowered pretty quick with a full shot at like level 5
or something. I put my note into the fortress at level 33 or
so with 50 hours on the character.

Lucky you. I don't think I was fully empowered until about rank 40. I don't mention that to turn this into a contest; it just seemed like alot of the chip on Lathan's shoulder was due to his perception that his accomplishments were going unnoticed. Just go with the flow. If you're doing your thing, sooner or later it'll get noticed. One thing's for sure: freaking out about how you're not getting props and asking to be uninducted probably won't help.

Always colorful, always interesting, I had hoped to be the same
for you, but instead I felt like I had been kicked in the gut.

Insert standard "it's just a game" advice here.

Nhiala - You are a solid character, enjoyed our limited
interaction. Well done on making Captain. I can't think of
anyone more suited for the position. Good luck with
everything.

Would it surprise you to know that all this time I had thought your congratulations were sarcastic? I just assumed Lathan was still annoyed at me for disagreeing with him over the uninduction thing. Seriously- every time I was around you I got a vibe that you resented me for some reason. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Imperials in general - With a few exceptions, I think the
whole lot of you are pretty sad really. Rarely walking
without at least three. Rarely fighting without at least a
two on one.

Usually they're fighting in a raid or raid defense scenario, in which case I don't expect them to fight one-on-one. That said, I can think of at least five current Empire heros that have fought me solo, and two more that recently deleted. You have to admit, it has got to be more than a little frustrating to solo a virtued maran paladin. That is, unless you're a wanded DreadLord with a few charges and Cents at your back. ($1 to Gulthruck.)

I'm taking a break from this game(could be 1 day, could be a year)
who knows. I'll be back when I am inspired to play something again,
and I'm sure I will try my first real evil, or maybe a neutral.

Dude, here's hoping you have better luck than I did. It sounds like a break is seriously in order, so milk it for all its worth. Who knows, maybe you'll kick the habit permanently.

I'm all about pking and cabal wars, etc. The whiney and petulant part comes into play from frustration and anger. I'm sure I did come across that way. Was it intended? Not really, but I don't mind that it did.

***The state of the Hero ranks is completely pathetic. Fair

I think the difference here lies in our sphere choices. I've noticed quite a few sphere honor guys only get empowered to a certain level before having to come back, whereas sphere war guys, sometimes empowered to a later level than honor, sometimes all the way. I think you're mistaking the freaking out part. At some point along the line the flow just got to be sitting around and doing nothing. I asked for uninduction because I think its fairly lame to have a 215 hour old squire. My opinion. I know everyones differs. Believe it or not 215 hours is a long ass time, and part of me does play this game for the props so to me I don't think it was freaking out, I think it was frustration. The way I figure it, I could do my thing uncaballed without having some prize like full maran being dangled before me, but never given.

***Nhiala - You are a solid character, enjoyed our limited

There was absolutely no resentment. I think what you were seeing was my general unhappiness with my own performance.

I can't say I agree with this statement, but it did seem like we played at different times a lot too, except after you picked up captain you starting showing later at night more often. I dunno, maybe I'm just dreaming #### up.

Heh, guess I shouldn't mention that my break lasted long enough to go grab some dinner. So much for breaks, huh?
