Also, we all know that the true power behind the scions these days are the orcs. There is 1 scion that is deadly right now.

It's time for one of my long death threads! Standard format, general character info first, reflections second, ctrl-f for names if you don't care about any of that.

**General Character Notes**:
I had a dream about dying in PK so I decided to come back to CF and see how it was going. This is not an endorsement of PK, for anyone who is metaphorically high-fiving themselves (/s).

I can't have a character without thinking up some big goal for myself, and this time I thought it would be ‘fun' to rank solo (not including mercs). That fit into the stubborn Pride arc, but I wanted Solenzara to go further than that. To give her a bit of depth, I added her haughty zealotry and the fact that she really wanted friends (but wasn't sure how to have them).

I didn't want her to pledge to a cabal, I wanted her to be invited. I realize that no one was going to invite Sol outright, but I was fine to play the game as Pridefully as possible, as long as someone was willing to say ‘Yes and'. Ironically, the only group that did invite my character outright were the Outlanders, which was one of the two cabals I couldn't join.

At the start of the character creation, I was leaning 45/45/10 towards Scion/Tribunal/Empire. Towards the end of my solo leveling journey as I really got into the mindset of my character, I was leaning far more towards Scion.

Getting Apostle was one of those audacious goals I've had since I deleted Cedany. I didn't expect to get it, but (upon reflection), I do think it was deserved and I'm pleased as punch. I realize that I kind of wilt without a cabal, so props to all of you that play uncaballed characters. Anyways, onto the goodbyes!

MORIUS - Just when I was starting to question whether I could ever do the religion well enough to get Apostle, you surprised me! I feel like it's been a busy season for you and a lot of the Imms, but you swooped in just as I was starting to go batty. I'm sad we couldn't interact more, but the interaction we had was very meaningful. Thank you for that.

I loved sin-eater, though I definitely wasn't able to use it to its full potential save for one time. That one time made it ALL worth it, and I loved the rp aspect of being able to talk in form even though everyone thought my coolest form was ugly.

I know I ended up getting a bit whiny at the end, and that's a large part of why I decided to pull the plug. Given my role, it wasn't very cash money of me to want my cake and eat it too. I'd rather lose the character than sabotage my rp arc or meander on a path I wasn't 100% committed to, so I sent the delete. I wish I could have went out with a bang instead of a whisper, but hopefully I made you proud!

NYCRUVAE - Thank you for gazelle as a reward for the RC, I loved it!

I really did want Sol to come to your shrine and brag about how her oath to Morius was cooler than anything you had in your Ledger, but it wasn't meant to be. Between the rock and the hard place of ‘Morius would be greatly upset if I gave a single copper' and my nonexistent ability to navigate mazes of any size, it wasn't in the cards. Sol threw a fit because she was embarrassed and hated losing, even if she was only in a race to the bottom with herself. It was all RP and I'm sad we didn't get to interact, but it's on me. Thank you for showing up and being willing to play ball with the most petulant ex-Underdark resident.

ATHELOS - I enjoyed adventuring with you and wished we could fight more together. Your entrance and hitting the ‘wrong' shifter had me cracking up IRL. Keep being your awesome self!

CALLEN - The endless font of knowledge, my sounding board, and the master of icy desserts. Your event was amazing and as someone who loves Herald events, I hope I can pull off something equally creative and engaging one day. Thank you for being a supportive presence for my odd character.

CASERQUE - You’re great. A+, keep collecting. You kept it classy even when I was hopelessly outmatched in PVP and remained a bright spot in Sol’s life. There’s no one else I’d rather be PKd by (save for Morius). I really hope you stick to it and accomplish your goals. Sorry I never brought you that tent.

GAUSMA - The second most drunk but undeniably most bizarre bard. I say that as a compliment. Thank you for RPing with me and for showing up to witness my pre-pinnacle event. You were the only one who showed, and even though you got a lot out of it, it made me happy.

GUINAVIEVE - Ah, sister. We should have had so much longer together, but I wanted you to see me shining at my brightest. I hope you take up the path I set and achieve even greater things. I know you have a difficult path, but I am absolutely sure you’ll do great if you set your heart to it.

JAHABRINT - My first friend on Sol. I know a lot of people were shocked that an orderly character could be friends with an Outlander, but as I told them: “I don’t care that Jahabrint is in Outlander, he’s just Jahabrint to me". I wish we could have hung out more.

KALLARA - You’re so cool. Like, unfathomably so. I was intimidated to talk to you, but late night RP was keeping me awake and I’m so glad I did. You have such a phenomenal character and if Sol wasn’t completely devoted to her own fatih, I am 100% confident she would have picked every corner of your skull about yours. Superbly well done, keep being yourself.

KUSHKUNA - Thanks for being such a fun Villager to fight and talk to, even if you asked me if I was a part of the Fortress! Believe in yourself and keep being gregarious and murderful.

MORXALIM - Wish we would have RPed a bit more than just fighting, but that’s how it be. I enjoyed trying to think of ways to outsmart you even if I couldn’t out-pk you.

PIMBLEN - By the stones, we got one single adventure together and it involved me getting us lost. I had high hopes for taking on dragon lairs, the depths of the Underdark, and every other nook and cranny we could find. I know it was my goals that prevented that, but I appreciated your RP and being a friendly, positive, mentoring presence. During the middle levels, seeing you on the WHO list was one of the highlights of my very lonely logins.

PIPPIT - Armagillo! I’m so sorry that we didn’t get to adventure more together. You brought so much joy to my late night logins and I can only hope I offered you a bit of fun in return. Your wordplay is as delightful as your bracelets are aesthetic. I’ll miss you.

RHAEN - The definition of what I want in a leader, especially in the Fortress. Did you have to RP with a drow and tell your story? Absolutely not. But you did and you actually changed a bit of Sol’s RP arc. I enjoyed all of our conversations and really hope you keep being the way that you are.

SCETHE - Well, I have to say that knowing that I was leaving you behind hurt more than anything else. If there was one thing that made me pause about deleting, it was that I wanted to learn more about your story and see what trouble we could get into. Your taletelling is top notch, your character is a boon for the Inn and CF. You’re the best bird in the land, and I’ll throw anyone who says otherwise into a burlap bag.

SPROCKLIN - A Village leader who RPs and tries to goad me to come to the giant? What a rare sight! You were always willing to fight against odds and truly revitalized the Village.

TIVLIN - Ah, Tivlin. Why did you have to ask if Sol knew that the Spire was about more than violence? It was a totally reasonable comment from a Provost, but it absolutely infuriated her. I wish we got to spend more time together, since I could tell that your RP and leadership was a boon for the Spire. Alas, I hit hero too late.

VEROCHKA - The coolest dark elf in the Empire. I hope you succeed in your goals and find the balance between Imperial duties and being the proud drow that wants more for her people.

VUXA - Best orc.

YMSTRECCA - RPing with you felt like I was dropped off at a disco club where I didn’t know the dance moves and was immediately shown the door. Witnessing numerous other characters get inducted into Scion when I couldn’t even get the time of day or a daunting task was incredibly frustrating. I always try to incorporate the ‘Yes and…' method from improv into my RP, but you were much more, ‘No, child'. I can’t claim to understand how your leadership style works, but I can only hope that the next time we meet IC (with new characters), you’ll be more inclusive of people who aren’t PK veterans/uber deathful.

ZAKARO - When you first reached out to me, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to help you. I was so exhausted from my solo leveling journey that I just wanted to stay in my own box. I’m so glad that I didn’t do that, since Zakaro became an inspiration and friend for Sol.

ZINDLUP - You’re doing great as a leader. Thank you for the invitation(s). Stay true to your course with the research, it’s a really good idea.

I really enjoyed Sol and interacting with you made me regret my Chancellor delete once again.

The depth and vision you bring to interactions in CF is just on such a different level. I really hope your experience is not souring enough that you leave entirely again and you're just resetting to come back with something else amazing.

It's so crazy and disappointing to see a character like that slept on so hard. I thought surely once you got Apostle of Morius I'd see you with a nightwalker sooner rather than later, but the cabal seems to have gone in such a different direction here lately. Well, not really different, just back to same old same old Indeed. Child. Prophecy! Daaarkness. At least Morius clearly liked you.

Either way, glad to see you back and hope you stick around. Even with an uncaballed character you made an impact and made those around you want to up their RP game.

Your RP had shades of Baer and that's one of the biggest compliments I have ever given any1 in this game. Playing w/ her, you're often just speechless, you did that to me a time or two and so if you ever wondered why'd he just stop, it's b/c you took it to that level.

Having interacted with you in your past characters over the years, and knowing your online personality, I'm really upset you write this, which is extremely misleading and false. You're not the first but honestly I would have expected more of you. I logged our interactions because I worried someone would do precisely this, I'm just sad it is you.

You say you needed to be invited, but then are upset because you didn't get the attention you think you deserved. I applaud the rp angle and character choices, but you do not seem willing to accept the consequences. Here you say you couldn't get a task or time of day, but in-game you said you didn't need or want one, and instead that WE should be asking YOU to join us, not the other way around, just like that. You never asked. You simply demanded. You just said how wonderful you are and I should beg you to join, and before I could even really say much you just said oh you only want beggars. You can't have it both ways. The "Yes and" method from improv is good in improv, but not everything - not even most things - and definitely not in cf, if by "and yes" you mean people should just agree with you. Why would a scion's rp, and in particular the Chancellor's, support saying oh, please, of course my dear, walk right in without anything at all, may we also get you some tea with that?

As you wrote, numerous other people got inducted. Maybe then it's you, not me. It has and had nothing to do with being pk veteran or deathful - and how would I even know that about Solenzara, you never said and I never asked. For all Ymstrecca knew you had 100+ pks. You're really just making things up here and it's really frustrating. Multiple people have already deleted who were not pk champs. You're way off the mark here. I won't go into greater detail on how decisions to induct are made while the character is alive, but the proof is in the pudding with the people I've inducted. Lots were or are not just not pk champs, but frankly pk deficient.

Here are the tells of the first time you spoke to Ymstrecca. You were level 36. As you see, the only "No, child" I gave you was in response to your question if I'd heard of you, which I had not.

Solenzara tells you 'Do you have a moment to speak?'

You tell Solenzara 'Mmmm?'

Solenzara tells you 'Have you heard anything about me? My efforts?'

Solenzara tells you 'Aside from the event I invited you to.'

You tell Solenzara 'No, child.'

Solenzara tells you 'I am exceptional. I am doing something that few - if any - Therans have done, for the glory of Morius.'

You tell Solenzara 'How lovely for you.'

Solenzara tells you 'I am reaching my pinnacle without any groupmates, any assistance or gear from others. Nor any cabal.'

Solenzara tells you 'But I do not wish to be lonely forever. This journey has already been quite... arduous.'

You tell Solenzara 'I fail to understand why you think I care, child.' (This tell was in response to the one just before, about you leveling alone. Your next tell, about being lonely, came simultaneous with my sending this one.)

Solenzara tells you 'Well, I thought you might like to invite me to join you in the Chasm. I have only perished to another adventurer once.'

Solenzara tells you 'Or were you hoping to have your recruits beg and flatter you?'

You tell Solenzara 'What a gift you are, child. Your place truly is in the Inn. '

Solenzara tells you 'Suit yourself. I'll be an asset to any cabal, but not the Inn.'

And that was that. I am unconvinced even a fort leader would have responded favorably to these tells.

As an aside, I've heroed multiple characters without ever grouping. It was actually pretty common back when there were certain honor gods, starting with Cador. Most didn't require but a lot felt like it and lots of people did it. And there were no mercs with xp help back then. I know more than a few others who have done the same. I am hoping your tell saying few if any have ever done it was just more embellishment from the character, but if not, it's actually not as rare as you think.

You're a terrific rp'er. I only ask you don't just assume others will play to your plan, that you maybe think through some of it from the other side, but most important, don't come here in real life and talk smack by saying false stuff. Uncool.

'I don't care about your veteran pk status'

'I knew Cador and have played the game for 300 years and solo'd so many times you aren't special.'

So you feel obligated to say you didn't care if they were a newbie but needed to say how much of a vet you are to show it doesn't matter to you. I'm pretty sure people that solo ranked from then to now also actually new what they were doing. Having seen her rank in some pretty weird places one mob per repop had me confused about her life choices and it was way more difficult than it probably needed to be for her, merc or not.

Remind me to revisit your other statements on your death thread.

I'm catching strays, I swear.

BUT you're not wrong, I ranked in some absolutely heinous places. I think it was worth it, though. If you can't solo pk 'em as a defense shifter, find the most out of the way places to rank.

> Having interacted with you in your past characters over the years, and knowing your online personality, I'm really upset you write this, which is extremely misleading and false.

It is my opinion. It is how I feel about how you treated my character. I don’t think that can be misleading or false, and we clearly see the situation through very different eyes.

As to the rest of what you wrote, I’ll only say that I was playing a prideful drow. When I was Advisor, if someone would have told me they demanded an invitation to the Chasm, I’d probably say something like “Well, we don’t do that around here, but you can have a task that’s twice as hard to prove yourself. Take it or leave it.” To be clear, THAT is what I meant by ‘Yes, and.’

But, to your point, this isn’t the Fortress. Nor is it the super strict/hierarchical Empire where I would be expected to speak deferentially to you. I was under the impression that Scion was the place for all manner of evil characters - the recklessly ambitious, the obscenely conniving, the bizarrely grotesque, the obnoxiously arrogant, etc.

Clearly, you made a character that was egotistical and demeaning. If someone comes to you and brags about what they’ve done, you reply “How lovely for you", “Why should I care?", etc. That’s as valid a form of RP as mine.

When I was in the Fortress, I recall there being applicants who were a bit different than starter pack squire. In every case, the leaders met with them and tried to figure out ‘Why is this guy/gal so angry/extra? Could they be a part of the cabal or are they truly not a good fit?’. There was a level of effort put in because every pledge was given consideration and chances.

I'm failing to see how I didn't accept the consequences. I wasn’t demanding special attention from you, I was simply continuing my RP arc in hopes you’d bite. I wrote missives (which I’ll include below, since I think your logs show only a small piece of the picture of my character trying to join the cabal).

The point I’m trying to make here is that I think most people would feel dejected if the brief conversation you listed was their one and only shot to get into an evil cabal. This is why I said I didn’t understand your leadership style. For me, I’m always going to give people opportunities to at least RP with me until they’ve crossed a line. For you, that line seems to be someone saying: “I want an invitation". So be it, but I hope you’re logging ALL the conversations with potential applicants and expecting them to kiss the ring to be let in.

Missive 1 (Sent after the log Ymstrecca Posted)
To: SCION MORIUS
Scions of the Eternal Night,

I dare you to grow a spine. I know it is a frightening notion. Why grow your own spine when you could travel with orcs that will break the spines of your foes? The orcs may brag about raising your Chancellor and gifting her foes to kill within their Village when she was young, but you can just ignore that. If you have not heard them brag until this letter, you cannot feign ignorance now.

I dare you to seek the position of Advisor or to depose your craven Chancellor entirely. I understand that she kicked the last Advisor from the Chasm without reason (though I would guess it was out of fear). When I confronted her about this, she kept calling me ‘child'. She is no leader and you follow a lizard that worships a goblin and prostrates herself to orcs.

I dare you to be better. Consider making a name for yourselves without saying that you are a slave to the orcs. It is pathetic and I can only hope that the next age will hold a better future for this once respected cabal.

… Or keep doing what you are doing. Your reputations are already known to all that have eyes. It would probably be easier to live as you have.

With absolutely no regards or respect for the cowardly,

Solenzara Shi'n-Ardul

Missive 2 (Sent after Tat/Apostle):

TO: YMSTRECCA MORIUS
Ymstrecca,

I write this missive only to you and my Lord so that you might think before you reply. I am sure you have seen that my Lord has declared me his Apostle. He sees my value, my effort, and my stubbornness as an act of faith. On the other hand, you have been blind to my potential from the start.

I wish to make the Chasm stronger. I have always wanted that, which is why I sought your invitation. We could be allies, if you were not the way you are. Doubtless, I will outlive you. Then, I will take your place and be remembered as a Chancellor who made the Scions stronger. There is another option.

I no longer seek a spoken invitation to earn my pledge. If you wish my strength within the Scions, you will write a letter to the cabal, inviting me in personally. I will not demand that you beg, since you are a leader. But I am long past asking nicely.

Consider it, Ymstrecca. If your faith glorifies greed, I'd suggest you lean into it.

This response shows that you don't get it, and probably won't. You have a way of interacting with people as if they are an NPC for your own personal benefit and gain, and cherry picking responses to share doesn't help your point the way you think it does-

Actually, it's you who don't get it, but at least partly because you don't know all the facts. She's the one cherry picking. There were more notes, but all of that's pretty irrelevant. She ended the conversation, and said she would go to another cabal. Everything after that was just her saying we had to come beg her, which obviously was just silly.

As an aside, when she says maybe we say no but here's a very big task, why didn't she say that? Why didn't she, mistress of pride, say give me the biggest task you've ever given, I'll do it better than anyone, and you'll see I'm the best? She was the one who wanted something. Be prideful. Change others' minds. But don't get upset when your choice turns on you and you just say ok and do nothing about it.

I'm done on this thread.

You might want to reread your log.

I wrote: "Solenzara tells you 'Suit yourself. I'll be an asset to any cabal, but not the Inn.'"

Any cabal except the Inn. ANY. That still included Scion, as my further attempts to join after telling you about my new form made clear. I even mentioned that you never gave me a task (see below). I'm left to wonder if the other applicants had to specifically ask for a task or not.

We clearly have different views of how to rp Pride. I don't think it's particularly prideful to ask for a difficult task. Completing it if given one? Sure. But asking wasn't how I wanted Sol's arc to go, given her role.

Also, I know you said you were done, but if there are more notes or rp that proves your point, feel free to post them. You could also post your scintillating, detailed replies to my two notes. I came with receipts, but I'm not going to post something that my character didn't write. I'm trying to think, but other than one reply back to the first note (see below), I'm really curious what these other notes are and where my prideful doppelganger is hiding. I have no problem sharing, because I'm not cherrypicking. I don't think these notes make my character look particularly good, but I didn't want to show part of the story.

On that point, here's the one other note I sent. For anyone who cares about the timeline, after my first note, there was a reply calling Sol a comedienne who wanted to join the Empire. Also, there was an accusation of striking the Outer.

Ymstrecca,

I'm not a comedienne. I made my intent to receive an invitation to the Chasm clear. You offered me no trial or option to do so. Am I not bloodthirsty enough? Do I not frolic with orcs as much as you'd like?

Your lack of desire to recruit adventurers unless they can provide invoker shields (or some other benefit for you specifically) is crystal clear. I don't understand why people say you won't bring magi to the Chasm, it's clear you like at least one guild. Or is it because I lack the form of a lion?

As to my ‘strike’ with Grogtar, let's tell the whole story. First, I'm not joining the Empire and have never have sought their halls. Second, when the Dread Lord told me he wanted to retrieve the Codex, I told him I didn't care about that, but I did care about striking you. You've attacked me, so I'm repaying you in kind.

When I walked to the entrance from the south, I realized I was still grouped with Grogtar and immediately fled upon hitting the Nightwalker because I was there for you. I returned and struck you. Grogtar fell to you and the orc (Vuxa). Once my poison failed to take hold and the orc tried to break my spine, I left.

If your guardian is in dire straights after a few seconds of combat with a scorpion, perhaps the defender of the Chasm is as weak as you are evasive and ineffectual. I'd advise positioning an invoker to shield it.

Humorlessly,

Solenzara Shi'n-Ardul, she who needs no pocket invoker or orc master to thrive

I'll keep this super brief and just say you were definitely my favorite character, both IC and OOC, and I'm bummed we won't get to run around or have that rematch when I (finally) drag my carcass to hero range. Come back soon!
