You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. This character's use of charm talismans really drove me bananas.

How can one of the leaders of a cabal all about freedom that won't even tolerate the hiring of mercenaries be okay with using magic to enslave the minds of people to force them to do their bidding? That should have been an immediate slap on the wrist and "no", to put it mildly. Empire? Scion? Yeah okay, makes sense. Outlander? I cannot even begin to imagine how that flies. From the bark:

IV. Slavery is Forbidden

You are bidden to shun and oppose slavery in all forms. The keeping of slaves and the hiring of mercenaries is forbidden. Each man must rule his fate freely, not under the will of others or by a lust for civilization's coins. All efforts should be made to liberate slaves and eliminate slavers, including conjurers with their extraplanar captives.

"Each man must rule his fate freely, not under the will of others"

I dealt with this character with a couple of mine, and mostly found her to be well spoken with good interactions. She was even willing to talk to my goblin, which was refreshing. But that whole talisman thing really made me go "hmmm".

Sadly. It seems most imms only monitor cabal channel so they don't actually see what's going on. I do not fault the imms, they do what they can with their time, availability, and interest, but I certainly do fault the playerbase.

The majority will toe and cross every roleplay boundary for an edge. It's why you wind up with things like:

-Fortress summoning good, or evil, mobs to fight ragers or area attacks
-You have Villagers who will do the Seaport quest to get the skill % boosts and stop 1 short of actually completing it because it is hardcoded to punish ragers *cough jalim cough*
-You have experienced bard and outlander player charming mobs against their will with a thin rationalization of charisma
-You have Empire ignoring Imperial dogma to collect items. "But mah alliances!" they wah wah.
-You have Villagers who rank and explore with animists, paladins with more magical gear than the Consortium, or quaffing right in front of them all for expediency or gear. *cough Kalystr cough*
-You have Baerinika followers who hide from evil. Quite a cowardly bunch.

The acceptable standards for roleplay are in the toilet. And in character punishment is a rarity.

You really don't have to anonymously post opinions, it's okay to have one even if its different. You forgot to call out Trib btw, there's been plenty lately.

I'm immensely grateful Carrion Field still exists today. The other stuff, I take in stride.

Indeed, it's never been free of high drama or big controversy to begin with.

That said, Cabal warfare really isn't in the place I left it. This appears structural.

I really enjoyed that first meeting we had up in the monastery, I genuinely had no intention of joining the Tribunal back then, nor did I even realize you were an Outlander.

I loved hearing your story and was so excited that you lasted as long as you did, even if I didn't get to bump into you much later on with any character.

A shame to see you go but I'm glad you rose as high as you did, you seemed to deserve it.

All that said, your character was awesome and I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
