Gah! Gonna miss ya!

Welp, it's summer and I just got a job that will be keeping me pretty busy until the fall when, as I said earlier, I'll be entering a doctoral program in psychology which will be keeping me even busier on top of the job. I figure my last remaining free time before entering the "really real" world of the employed and grad school shouldn't be spent sitting at a computer, but rather should be spent soaking up rays in the pool not 20 yards away that has been largely been going unused by me thus far in its existence.

Grunkenheim was originally intended to be an Arbiter way back in the day, but I could never bring myself to play a neutral dwarf healer because I knew if I ever died regearing would be a pain without request and the ability to kill mobs on my own. Enter Grunk the Dawnie, a retooled version of the role that'd be sitting on a shelf for probably close to a year and a half. The role was perfect for me after Keniston who largely spent most of his life purposefully alienating Treralds. Grunk was designed to be a lawful stickler hard-ass that I knew would be very much out of pace with the rest of the Dawnie players/characters and so I could transition from the "hated" Keniston to the "hated" Grunkenheim.

98 hours old, empowered at 10th, heroed in under 60 hours, tattooed after a 5-7 minute talk, apostled after probably a week and a half as a Dawnie, Grunk pretty much lived fast and died young. Grunk the Dawnie was rolled for the sole reason of apostling and installing the "no raid" policy that he installed the day he received the position. It probably won't last though since I basically had to have it forced on the Dawn mortals who fought me tooth and nail on it right up until Eryndorial basically said "Grunk's right, Dawnies shouldn't be raiding for items unless they need to save somebody." Of course, having heard the little discussions in the heavens I knew the imms in general were tired of seeing that Dawn held the Nexus item or the Scion item(usually taken by Ambrose) so I was sure I'd be backed by the imms if it came down to it.

I didn't enjoy Grunk as much as I'd hoped I would. My enjoyment of CF has always been based on the fact that I was clueless about game mechanics and was incapable of seeing the numbers behind the fantasy. Aftering having an imm, even if only a heroimm, I was suddenly capable of seeing the numbers and thus my enjoyment was lost. I knew when I immed Keniston that he'd be the last mortal I'd thoroughly enjoy and when I lost in the popularity contest that is the heavens and tried another mortal I found that I was right and CF was suddenly lacking in the lustre it had for me before. C'est la vie.

Farewells:

Eryndorial: I really had to ramrod Grunk's role and steadfast dwarven nature into your religion. I think I probably lucked out in that you spent little time really getting into the bread and potatos of Grunk or you probably wouldn't have tattooed him. His role as it read was originally designed for Zulghinlour's religion, and as I said an Arbiter, but I knew you were one of the only completely amiable imms I'd interacted with so I wanted to stay in that positive vein.

Dawn in general: I really hope you all, the players, step back and think about what Dawn is about and how the role of a Servant differs from that of a Maran. It was my hope that with Grunk I'd show you the path and you'd stay on it, whether it happens or not without some kind of immortal force-feeding I don't know, but I hope it does.

Satinka: Man you irk me. I was lucky that with Grunk I could use your being an elf to just not get along with you. I don't know what it is, but I think it might be your preachiness. You irked me back in the day too with your past characters so I knew coming in it'd happen, but it's all in good fun.

Ambrose: The "no raid" policy was directed at you. I saw that you had downed the Nexus item and Scion items before as Keniston so I knew you were one of those that needed correcting. I was surprised to see you resist as little as you did. I hope you know it's obvious how you're aching to get apostledom as it has been obvious with past characters of yours.

Stexzmon: I was hoping for more out of you, the Disciple of Surprises.

Paneros: Is was great in Kteng with you.

Lali: Grunk greet! It was always a pleasure running with you. I'm not sure how to word our relationship, it was like 2nd grader pig-tail pulling on the verge of sexual tension. Ya bloody flirt!

Gynax: Ya flimsy elf! Always fun protecting you from horrible odds.

Gabinetto: One of the few Dawnies that supported me 100% even if not openly, I appreciate it. Here's a hint though, if you're going to use ventriloquate you really oughta make sure you capitalize the letters in the names.

Wemnar: You probably realize you were my favorite Dawnie even though I only knew you for a short while. Probably because you're a dwarf.

Serniae: Never really spoke with you much except for over cb. Sorry I can't say more.

Valguarnera: How'd them turn undeads feel there? That's an interesting area you've got there.

Tiberianus: All respect was lost for you when you left the Nexus. The last guy to "succumb to the will of the tiger" was a putz and I'm thinking you're the same guy with a different character.

Bladjix: Always fun whooping your ass with a healer.

I'm sure I've forgotten a ton, but them's the breaks.

I died to an assassination outside the Fortress, afterwhich I always teleported out rather than walking out. I died to Tikar once when he slept me right after I came out of request lag and started putting up the protections that had fallen during it and I died to a phantasmal killer once when I was fiended at about 25% mana.

I killed Bladjix once when he was apparently LD, he only lasted 3 rounds so I had no way of knowing and I killed Venorsh in the Fortress. Those are the only pks and losses I remember.

Since this is my last hoorah I'll list some past characters, high points and low points.

I was that little rank 2 elf mage that was grouped with you for that little quiz in the Inn of the Eternal Star (vs Qxorllan)

desc + A stout little figure stands nearby with a gruff look on his face. His
desc + head sits like a boulder on shoulders that could just as easily be cliffs.
desc + Perpetually squinted eyes give him the look of a haggling merchant,
desc + weighing the worth of an item up for sale. A wide nose ends in a
desc + cavernous mouth that is full of jagged, rotting teeth. His hair is long
desc + and oily, a tangled and matted mess. His beard is no better. It’s cut
desc + into a rectangle which ends suddenly at his navel. It’s sticky with
desc + dried ale and has several foreign objects tangled into it. Twigs, leaves,
desc + even a chicken bone and a bottle of ale. He has a...distinct...odor. The
desc + palms of his hands and behind his ears are a lighter shade of brown
desc + than the rest of his body, leading you to believe that the majority of his
desc + skin is covered in dirt. He's dressed in shabby clothing that has too
desc + many holes to count and seems to be saturated with dirt and sweat.
desc + He has a nagging cough and the disgusting habit of wiping his hands
desc + on his chest or on whatever else is near.

role + CRASH! "Grab your picks you bloody bastards! Flaming louses! I
role + want to see that tunnel dug back out if I have to see that your backs
role + break doing it! You there! Put your flamin' Nankorf down and take up
role + your hammer! We've got metal to mine people! We've got weapons to
role + forge! We've got food to put on the table and our lady's to protect and

role + flamin' cave-in!" Grunkenheim yelled and directed his men but his head
role + wasn't in it at the moment. He was thinking about the discussion he had
role + had with the head foreman. He was also thinking about his future, about
role + a brighter tomorrow filled with more than just miner's cough and black
role + snot.

role + "Bloody Grunkenheim" one miner said as he was picking away at an
role + exceptionally large boulder. "I know he gets the job done, gets US to
role + get the job done, but he doesn't need to be so coarse about it." he
role + continued. "Shh!" said another, "If he hears you we'll all be digging
role + holes and filling them back in again." "Bloody...flamin'...there's no need
role + for all the cursing" whispered the first miner.

role + Grunkenheim was known for his harsh language and gruff no-nonsense
role + demeanor. It only seemed to get worse after he was made foreman of shaft
role + A, but his shaft was the deepest, widest, and produced the most mithril and
role + iron even though the other shafts were closer to the center of the veins of
role + ore. He was a strict disciplinarian and his men knew it, but he was also a
role + master of motivation. He drove his men harder and for longer periods of time
role + but they learned to love him for it.

role + Grunkenheim's mind began to wander, to the events of the past few days.

role + He came from a long line of miners, that's all his family had ever done and
role + probably all they would ever do. The mines were their life. They lived,
role + ate, drank, and slept the mine, but Grunkenheim was ready to do something else.
role + That's why he drove himself and his men so hard. "Get the job done and move
role + on to bigger and better things." he constantly thought to himself. He would
role + push his men until they broke through the walls of the 9th circle of Hell if he
role + had to, just as long as he could go home at the end of the day and not have to
role + return to the dank darkness and foul dust-filled air of the mine in the morning.

role + The head foreman was not happy that Grunkenheim was retiring and neither was
role + the King. The latter worried Grunkenheim none, but he did respect the head
role + foreman. "I'm sorry" he had said, "it's just time to move on to something of a
role + grander scale. “I'm looking towards the brighter tomorrow for Thera. I know
role + it’s unlike me, dwarf-kin, to think of peace, but surely coming from war torn
role + Mortorn you can understand my desire for a more relaxed existence.” The head
role + foreman had just nodded his head solemnly, too distraught to talk. "I don't know
role + what I'm going to do without you Grunkenheim." the head foreman said, "you're
role + my best man, my best foreman, and my best miner." Grunkenheim could just
role + smile as proudly as a rooster.

Role + “What are ya goin’ to do with yourself? The guilds we’re allowed to study in
Role + have been greatly reduced since the Council decided we were to avoid weaving
Role + the magics. You’re certainly no warrior, a priest?” the foreman said with deep
Role + creases in his forehead. “I can bloody fight with the best of ‘em. My men know
Role + that. I’ve whipped more of them than you can imagine with me bare fists, but
Role + I’ll be a healer” Grunkenheim replied, “and I will be wielding the hammer and pick
Role + of hope, faith, and peace for a brighter tomorrow by mid-life”

Role + The foreman just nodded his head sadly and Grunkenheim left for Ofcol.

In defense of Ambrose, she did down the item a few
times, only when the warlocks or marans were not around
at the time. I think your conclusions are a bit off
the wall.


I would like to become an Apostle, yes but if the
IMMS see it not to be then fine. I do know the game is
supposed to be fun and if the IMMS don't see Ambrose
fit to lead then perhaps the Dawn is not meant for me.

I had a nice e-mail from Eryndorial, that I am being
watched and watched and yet I heard this story before. He
also claims that Ambrose's character is ALOT better than
my past characters. I guess time will tell the story if
the IMMS again by pass one of my characters.

Sorry to see you go Grunk, I actually enjoyed the take
charge Apostle you did.

You where cool, despite your speech. Why did you delete so soon? You seemed to make a.. strong apostle, I know a lot of people did not like Grunkenheim for his.. attitude? Anyway well done.
