You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

Eshval's email (I actually read my emails and answer them!)

Eshval's slightly off-center (unofficial) blog.

With the re-emergence of Eshval, Her Court is open to applicants, though
not to all applicants. This I will explain in due course. If you seek
empowerment, I only empower in the spheres listed on WIZLIST, those being
BEAUTY, PASSION and NECROMANCY. If you do not have one of those as your
sphere, you need to look elsewhere for empowerment.

To those seeking empowerment: You must have some sort of role that
explains why you are here and why you desire Eshval's attention. The more
in-depth the role, the better your chances are of being empowered to a
greater level. Empowerees may be of any sentient race, though if you have
some sort of accent that makes it hard to understand, you will likely be
sent away to learn a language...minotaurs being the exception.

To those seeking the Court: Be of an appropriate race and alignment. Don't
show up at level 10 and expect to be taken seriously. Unless you are of
substantially higher level, you will not be considered (the level is
somewhat flexible). If you seek the Court, I had best heard of you before
you show up at my shrine. This means you must be not only interesting and
active, but you should have already introduced yourself. I am not
interested if you can power game or kill everyone within your range, I am
more interested in your character's subtle nuances and if you have 'class.'

Things to remember: Eshval is EVIL. Eshval is likely insane. Eshval will
ask things of you that will likely result in your death. Eshval will test
her followers. You will find life a struggle, but I will not intentionally
destroy a character. Do not expect empowerment, a tattoo, or the Court.

I will ask you questions that are meant to see if you have the wit and
intelligence to move beyond the Pale and into another level of thought.
There are no standard questions, the only rules are the ones I make and I
may change those at any moment as desired by me

Here are some clues: Know and understand terror and the possibilities of
the 'Darkness,' what do they mean? Don't bring me corpses, they smell bad
and it is a waste of blood. Be polite and respectful; never 'nod' at me.

*Addendum
There are only so many places available within the Court, all others will
be encouraged, but until there is an opening, none may enter.

*If you find yourself continually WANTED, it will be more difficult to
enter/stay within the Court. The Court is not flamboyant in its killing...
WANTED FLAGS draw unwanted attention.

EDIT
While some folks may have missed this, you best HAVE A ROLE before approaching me. Within that role, you need to address simple things, like why are you approaching me, why you chose your sphere and how it impacts your existence...and so on. I may send you and echo or a dream even if you do not have a role, but you need a role if you want to follow the religion.

Some ask why I require this. Simply put, it weeds out those who are unwilling to put the time in, not only in writing a role, but assuring me you are willing to give the religion/path a good try. While some may not realize it, I put a good deal of time and effort into those who follow me, so I ask that you at least do some prep work.

Allow me to offer some insight into the mind of Eshval to assist those who approach her in not only surviving the encounter, but making it a positive role playing experience. Bear in mind, Eshval is evil and while she may at times act otherwise, her purposes in doing so will always trace back to her true nature.

From her helpfile - "Madness, evil and intelligence are not incompatible. Indeed they are complimentary." - 'The Place of Madness'

What should this quote tell you? Eshval is insane? Perhaps, but it is a controlled insanity, an affectation that amuses her. If you want to be insane as a follower, do it with class. Don't, however, promise to be what you cannot deliver.

How you approach following Eshval is a personal matter, and I will allow as much individuality and varied approaches as possible...as long as they do not modify the core values of the religion. Many make the error of offering Eshval corpses, which in the CF community is often a benchmark of some nature. Well, I enjoy my followers being accomplished killers as much as any immortal. It gives us bragging rights. I even more appreciate someone who role-plays, and both may get rewarded. If you are just interested in killing, however, you should not expect a good deal of interest from me. Mix it up a bit, be the suave killer who has class.

Eshval = blood drinker. Donate a corpse to me and its like offering me cold leftovers. Sometimes, however, a corpse is a pleasant gift if the soul who occupied it had worth and was valued.

I want applicants/followers to understand, the Nightborne are not undead in the normal meaning of the term. They are considered the Blessed Half-dead. And the only ones who can hope to achieve this state are dark-elves, half-elves (all types) and humans. Other races may achieve power and status within her religion, but they will not enter the Court. Does this mean you can achieve a status like Lich or Mummy? Sadly, no. Not yet, though I would say that the tattoo does offer some small benefits. Will there be vampire or vampyres? I surely hope so, I have my own ideas and concepts, but still an uber coder would be needed and they have much more important things to do.
