You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. #486, "Changes to Word of Recall for some classes:"

1) Paladins effected by Essence of Charity can recall other people.

2) Shamans and necromancers can no longer use Word of Recall on anyone but themselves. The shaman change is meant to make things more consistent within the class (most communes do not work on others), as well as across classes (paladins cannot recall others, despite a more "helpful" role in life). The necromancer change is meant to curtail the class slightly, in a way that fits the evil nature of the class a bit better.

You'll only have protective type paladins sending people home. Shamans and necros always bugged me about them being able to word others. Especially when Imperial Shamans are wording out Imperial Warriors et al, from being smeared. Damn nice change all around.

The necro thing has always felt odd for that.

Shaman's well..., they have a different 'style'
not sure how I feel about them losing it.

(Not saying hey! you shouldn't do blah blah blah, just stating
my opinion on it.)

The mass of changes by the way, have kept me from walking away
from this place. Real life pulling me away and all that.
Bored= quit playing;
changes (even small ones)= Hey maybe I'll try a
(Insert whatever here)! The just fiddled with/added/changed/removed
(Insert whatever else here)

Like orcs Right after I deleted my last one *fistshake*
In any case - Nice work, great game, love the changes (even if
one or two will probably piss me off some day, I'll just roll
with it and eventually get used to it.)

The ever-annoying Baj

Using Word of Recall was always a helpful weapon against people out of range from you. Was this also taken into consideration?

Well, it will never work if they aren't trusting you, so it's only really a helpful weapon against the careless or inexperienced.

If you mean recalling your allies to help them against people who are in their range (but not yours), I see that as an unrelated issue to this one. Nonetheless, neither shamans nor necromancers are supposed to be built around helping allies, as much as single-mindedly destroying enemies.

Neither shamans no necromancers are supposed to be focused on saving others
