You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

Some of the special-purpose forums are listed below along with their replacements (as of writing):

Make corpses of things that you could logically eat, edible. So if I go kill a rabbit, I can eat it's corpse. This is different than the butcher skill in that you can't stock up, as corpses rot eventually, but it would make life much easier for outlander wannabe's...

You can already do this to a extent. With my character before I found any good source of food lying around I would turn autosac off and carve the corpse. Then you can eat the trophy. It's not very filling, but it will keep you from taking hunger damage.

That was never part of the designed function of the Carve command.

Not arguing the "gameplay" reason you want this.

But I can argue, that this just doesn't make good sense, in my mind. (I understand that good sense can be set aside for game balance).

First off, You aren't going to be eating the bones. Second off, you aren't going to be eating a number of the organs inside, unless you want to get poisoned. And you know what, if you don't know how to excise the Urea tract and bladder right...and spill some on the meat...your going to get poisoned anyway.

The butcher skill encompasses removing the bones, and the poisonous parts of the animal.

This is not just to stock up on food and keep it from rotting (draining the blood and whatnot), it's to make it non-poisonous.

I don't care who you are, Rabbits might be good eating, but if you eat everything non-bone in a rabbit corpse, you are going to get really sick.

You are asking, basically, to let everyone have a toned down butcher skill in allowing them to eat fallen corpses without getting poisoned. And I don't like that Idea
