Here is invoker getting hit:
Erenthell closes his eyes, bright silvery-white flames begin to swirl
around him. As Erenthell opens his eyes he glares at Invoker. Without warning the
flames form into a perfect sphere, and fly towards Invoker. As they explode
into amazingly bright tongues of silvery-white flame, you hear Invoker's
screams of agony...and the bone-chilling scream of a hunting phoenix.
Invoker is unaffected by Erenthell's phoenix fire!
...
Same tick round after(So shield was still up):
Invoker collapses, his eyes searching the skies for mercy, as painfully bright silvery-white flames leap from his eyes and mouth, and curl around him.
Invoker's phoenix fire scratches him.

I doubt this is the same tick, since the code that does the initial damage and the code that does the update damage is exactly the same. And an invoker shield will rarely come into play with regards to phoenix fire.
