When you are invisible and sneaking, and you then go underwater, you don't sneak anymore, but you also get the 'You fade into existence' echo. I think you stay invisible when affected by the spell and goind under water, no ? Perhaps it has something to do with no longer sneaking ?

You lose invis when going underwater.
