Could just be RNG but it seems like fighting with your familiar while you're sleeping messes with your mana regeneration. Could be edges/skills/slow-check aren't working because you're considered in combat?

A brief look at the code and a few minutes of attempting to reproduce this didn't lead me to anything that suggests this is a thing.
